There is a certain amount of unspoken communication between players going on when you play reasonably within the meta. If you play far outside of that, you need to make up for it to some extent so that your team is on the same page as you. Simply muting people is not itself harmful or punishable, and is advisable if you have an issue with toxic chat.
You're missing the point entirely. I don't think you actually know how he played in the slightest, or why he was banned. You can't take 3 words out of context and expect to know the whole reasoning.
