PSA: I expect you to act like an adult

This is something that I recognize, and based off of human nature understand, but will still try to bring attention to and change as much as I can. If you are p[laying a game of League, ESPECIALLY if you are playing ranked, then I expect you to act like an adult.

And yes, i know, not everyone who plays this game is an adult, but the vast majority are at least in their teens, and should be beginning to mature anyways. I know it sucks when you lose a game because of a dumb mistake, either your own or a teammates.

I know it sucks when you don't get your main role or champ or whatever, but try and at least conduct yourself in a manner that you would at work or school.

This isn't an easy thing to do, look at "traditional" sports, where players throw mini tantrums and over celebrate all the time. But please make an effort to suck up your ego, admit when you made a mistake, comfort and encourage rather than flame and troll, and above all try to act like a likable human being.

Because that's what you are, that's what I am, that's what every person who plays this game is. A human being, with emotions and loves and hates just like the rest of us. So even though this game gives you the anonymity to act like a vile piece of filth doesn't mean you have to.

If you are a grown man/woman, don't throw a temper tantrum just because someone banned your champ, or your support died to a gank, or anything like that. Find ways to CONSTRUCTIVELY criticize both yourself and your team, while still being encouraging.

And don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying you have to be a total goody two-shoes. Trash talk in moderation is fine, as long as it's meant to poke fun, not demoralize.

Thank you for reading, have a wonderful day, and best of luck in League! [slayer-jinx-catface]

UPDATE: First off, kudos to PaladinNO for separating this out and making it much more readable, format was never my strong suit.

Secondly, wow that was a way bigger response than I was expecting. Thank you all for sharing your opinions and insight, I'm glad I was able to spark some discussion on this and that so many people are offering agreement, disagreement, or amendments.

I hope we can make the League community better by doing things like this. Thanks for all of the comments guys!

Sorry, but I just had to - you have no idea how annoying it is to try to read just a wall of text. Some Janna works wonders in a long text. ;)

I like to see a man with a strong and vigorous morality like this.

Everybody knows normals are for being competitive and serious, while ranked is for having fun and experimenting.

Get your facts straight, OP.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't even have to act like an adult. Just don't be unnecessarily rude to people you don't know. I think that's a reasonable request.

conduct yourself in a manner that you would at work or school.

This isn't 'work' or 'school'. An adult would know this. An adult doesn't give a fuck if some kid accuses him of "Not acting like an adult" while playing video games. Adults have actual problems like paying the rent, holding down a job, struggling with substance abuse, living in violent neighborhoods.... some guy writing "KYS TROLOLOL" on the internet ranks along the lines of "nobody cares" and "really, nobody cares".

You conduct yourself in a business-like manner at work because that is your job, you get paid to do it to the best of your ability in order to net a profit for your company. That is so far removed from what one does in an online battle arena video game that I am tempted to call troll on your nonsense.

All of that being said; I highly encourage all players to follow Riot's rules, they are unbelievably draconian but its their game and they make the rules. I've played hundreds of online games over the course of many years and Riot's rules are absolutely, hands down the most draconian I've ever seen , bar none. Nothing even remotely comes close.

Used to hold true for ranked, but that was mainly because league players back then were adult-like. Current league player base is like the exact inverse of what we had so words alone will only take you so far. Also Riot making gameplay experience much more miserable this year isn't helping

Problem is, we don't teach good behavior in real or esports anymore. Use to be you were taught to support your team, and if you "trash talked" or put down your team mate, good coaches, benched you or you ran laps. You learned that teamwork was OP and to work together...you win more. Now, and especially in LOL at moment, the community is so about them, and their score or their S that they don't care about the team. Trolling is fun, or "take a joke" because I said "you are (insert insult here)". This is the problem anymore and the response of "just mute them" and ignoring the problem has just made it grow. This is not about "get your safe space" it's about working as a team is all. I just figure anymore, team wants to be toxic, or people want to troll others I will stand up for my team mates, if it does not stop...i will win the next game. Don't have to help the disrespectful, hateful, "child" in game...that actually is an "Adult" thing to do. I can handle a loss...will win the next one. I don't have to support their bad behavior. I know others don't like it, but, I can always go from "X" 5 to "X" 4 rank tomorrow, or another game.
