Mute instead of ban would be nice

Hey, simple2 over here !

So, I thought that muting someone from chatting would be really better instead of getting the #BAN. In my opinion this mute might be a good idea, flamers will just not be able to flame! The #BAN is not really nice, I think that an in-game mute would be way better. Another good idea is to limit a flamers' ability to use the chat. They could get an option of messages like: ss/going X lane/baron/gg wp etc.

There are 4 tiers of punishment, which unless the behavior is extreme, it goes through each in order one at a time for recurring punishments;

10 game chat restriction
25 game chat restriction
14 day account ban
Permanent account ban

Riot does try "muting" flamers. The thing is, if those players continue their behavior the punishment increases. Riot used to do infinitely stacking chat restrictions, but many players continued to use their limited chat to flame still. Since Riot is against completely removing chat privileges, the only option for those people is to move to a ban eventually.

So is removing them from the game. Just cause their is another option does not mean you have to use it.

Plus having teammates who are never able to chat does impact normal players. Pings only get people so far in communication. I have yet to see a ping to inform me a sum spell is down, that a player wants to tower dive, a request to cover a lane for them, switch lanes, etc.

Prove why these people should be allowed to play league of legends, heads up this a bait. It is impossible to prove that they should be allowed. This is exactly why bans are ok for riot to do.

I've had MANY teammates that don't say a single word the entire game. A lot of people that don't ping either. They just play the game. So you're saying those players are negatively impacting the game? Also, there are two different types of flamers. The 12 year olds that just spam %%%%%% in chat, etc., and the people that rage at trolls. I think the people that rage at trolls should be muted instead, since they actually try to win :)

The reason they don't completely remove chat privileges is because players that are ragers/ trolls that can't chat will often then just find another way to troll the game. Things such as pinging a player or feeding.

The way I look at it is that if there is a rager on the team it sucks. But there is still a chance to win as long as everyone is trying to win. Sure you may have an idiot ranting in chat, but as long as he is still trying then you can just report him after and move on. If the rager is permanently chat restricted he is more likely to take a different avenue of trolling and will do things to insure the game is lost.

Toxic players will always find other ways to ruin the experience of others. If they can't type their frustration, they'll troll or feed instead as a release. If you're toxic, we don't want you here.

"toxic" =/= trolling.

The vast majority of "toxicity" that I personally see is in response to someone trolling anyway.

And allowing them to stay in game to troll others would only escalate the issue. Mute a toxic player, they resort to trolling, others rage at troll, others get muted, and so on. Better just to ban them instead of dealing with an endless cycle of trolling and toxicity.

I've seen very few "toxic" players troll is the point. They are usually "toxic" because someone is trolling....and no punished for it.

And what makes you think that a person wont be an ass through other means once they get chat restricted?

Riot already tried indefinite chat restrictions. People would just show poor behavior in other ways.

If you want to mute yourself, there are options out there to unbind your chat key.

Back when I started in late S1 early S2, people would stack up thousands of games of chat restrictions. All they did was built troll and fed. So no, I don't think a permamute is a good idea.
