"Remake" is good...... but not great.
Look, we all get disconnected from games sometimes. Even pro streamers get lag and connection issues. Once in a while we all have to relog. And yes, there are trolls and leavers who wreck ranked games for the rest of us. But 90% of the time when a player goes to the trouble of making a team (or joining solo queue), banning, locking in their pick, selecting runes and masteries, choosing their summoner spells, and then doesn't show when the game actually starts, it's not because they just want to lose LP.
Today I got booted from the loading screen and had to relog while my teammates started the game without me. I actually got back in under three minutes and started walking to lane, so my whole team could see I was back and we weren't 4v5. Then right as we got first blood, my team agreed to a remake.
Why? Well, first of all, because it's bronze solo queue and nothing makes sense. Also, because the remake feature is rare and new and everybody wants one, like a shiny toy. But my question is, why did the remake vote button come up after just 3 minutes, when I could have easily caught up? Why did it come up after I'd reconnected and there were 5 vote slots, but it agreed after just 3 were green?
I somehow had it in my head that the remake feature wasn't available until at least 5 minutes into the game, which honestly made perfect sense. Around the 5 minute mark, players have begun to itemize, they have all 3 abilities unlocked (top lane might even have ultis), and the disparity between teams is going to be really tough to make up-- almost impossible in higher rankings. But at just 3 minutes? Most likely, no one has even backed yet.
Also, why isn't remake cancelled when the dc'd player returns? Why isn't it cancelled by first blood for the dc'd team, only against it? Why does the counter have 5 slots when the player returns, but only needs 3 to be approved?
Rito, I'm tilted. I lost 22 LP for playing 10 seconds of a game-- and wasted 15 minutes in queue+getting dc'd and trying to relog. And that's without counting the additional 1.6 HOURS of "low priority queue" (aka suspension) for getting pegged by LeaverBuster, which is as ridiculously heavy-handed as always.
I get that the remake feature is necessary, I get that it doesn't come up often and so is tough to gain feedback on and improve. But 3 minutes is just too short, and there must be additional cancel conditions. Those of us with crappy internet want to love your game, Riot-- but you really do try your best to make it tough for us.
