So yea, riot needs to soften the ban hammer a bit.

So I'm all for banning toxic players why not let's make this community better! However, riot might want to fix their ban hammer a bit.

I mean if someone is toxic to me, I ignore them or put them on mute I'm not that sensitive, but honestly riot should not be focusing on pleasing players who are overly sensitive. Having the mute button and bans are honestly redundant, either get rid of one or the other, either allow players to have free speech and those that don't want to hear it or are too sensitive can mute and stop banning for the least little thing , or remove the mute and just ban everyone who says one comment that hurts peoples feelings because it makes the mute button pretty pointless.

I am not defending toxic players I am just pointing out that what riot is considering toxic or ban worthy is a little absurd now days. I have played this game since it first came out on multiple accounts, never had a ban on any account until season 6. Season 5 I noticed an uptick in trolls but oh well ignore them and move on, however season 6 I am getting a troll literally every other game sometimes strings of trolls.

when I say trolls I don't mean a player having a bad game, I mean a player straight up intent feeding, running under towers spamming laugh, trolling lanes, calling out map positions ect. I report yet I do not get a "player has been ban" notice like I do when I report toxic players.

Now, I have had multiple bans for thing like this:

Enemy team: what is your team mate doing? Me: intentionally feeding because our top refused to give him his lane even though he didn't que for top. Trolling team mate: reported. Me: Ok?

Team mate: Fk you, your lane keeps ganking me! Me: I pinged it, and pinged it all the way up river please listen to pings. Team mate: No fk you, follow your lane. Me: umm I have been, that's how I picked up the triple kill twice now. Me: Just play passive please. Team mate's duo partner: we are reporting you. Me: Ok, you do that. I proceed to mute them

These are just a couple examples for the most part I don't say anything, the only time I say anything is when the feeding is absurd so I'll ask them to hug tower or to please listen to pings, ward their lanes, group up or to please follow up on ganks. Just basic advice sometimes they listen sometimes they don't and sometimes they get toxic and flip out and report me for giving basic advice. Sometimes I'll answer an enemy team when they ask what a team mate is doing, I'll let them know they are intent feeding or trolling (but I never ask for a report that is also a reportable offense). Or if they accuse a team mate of mine for trolling who isn't I'll just politely let them know that they are not trolling and do not deserve a report that they are just playing poorly.

Now have I ever received a deserved ban? Yes I'm not going to lie, I prefer to be honest and transparent, I told one troll that just ran under tower spamming laugh, called my position out all game and tried to steal my farm all game, that he was acting childish and needs to grow up. I received a deserved chat ban for this, not even going to argue that was negative.

On another account I had a player flip out and start threatening me and my family, telling me to kill myself and that he refused to listen to pings or ward because he is too good and knows what he is doing and is better than me. I responded negatively by saying yes because what you are doing is working so well, keep that feed up mr. pro, and while your at it go fk yourself, then I proceeded to mute him. (this is uncommon for me because I really don't like cussing, I don't care if others do but I just prefer not to).

Now I know fan boys will be all ready to defend riot and everything they do and flame me (no I do not have the email or ban card screen shot since it has been a while since I received a ban believe me or don't either way it isn't important to me), and that is ok again it's part of not being too sensitive, everyone deserves the right to free speech and their opinion, so thats fine. I'm not saying riot is awful or anything but it is clear their ban hammer is a little over the top, as the number of bans has increased substantially in our community, even the amount of ban posts on this forum has increased in a significant ratio compared to the influx of players.

So all in all I realize that this is a long post, but I am just pointing something out while I'm sure most people do deserve the bans they get, and two of mine I honestly deserved the rest of the bans I have received for the examples I gave are a bit over the top for just giving a team mate advice.

Not sure if I will be able to respond to or see your replies I have to head out of the country and won't have internet for a few months but feel free to leave your comments and feedback below, I hope this sparks a civil discussion that everyone can show respect to others and their opinions in.

Have a good day summoners!

skimming through your comment here, and I have to agree. Talking smack and being toxic via chat shouldn't be punished as hard, while intentional feeders should be punished more severely.

I feel like currently its the other way around. and we all know Riot doesn't do the due diligence to review the game to see if the player deserves a ban or not, or if multiple people deserve a ban and not just the one getting reported.

in an effort to keep in short, ill end with this, I agree with your assessment

See what I don't get is in the example you pointed out I would've cussed at them, called them idiot little children and then kept playing and probably occasionally make fun of them when they mess up unless I'm feeling nice that day. That being said, I've never been banned or chat restricted and maybe I've just gotten lucky in the past 6 years I've played this game, but it really does make me wonder how terrible the individuals are that actually receive those bans.

The only thing I've ever received is the whole warning message saying "everyone has a bad day." I haven't received it lately though and God knows my behavior has not gotten any better. Maybe they got rid of it?

Counterpoint:

I think Riot needs to swing the banhammer with more force. I see all these summoners in here complaining that they got the hammer, every single one of them admitting that they were behaving badly, against the word and the spirit of the SC, but attempting to justify it with "well the other guy was being a jerk and I had a right to retaliate".

You'd think people would get the hint after the first reform card. "That thing you were doing? It's not cool. Stop it."

But, no. And so the banhammers eventually come. This tells me the system is working as intended.

...yet day in and day out, I still run into people who spam chat, spam pings, intentionally feed, end sentences with "..or I feed", and so on. Not enough is being done.

Every player being responsible for their own behavior, the onus is on them to mute someone once they start being toxic, and then, if they feel like doing the community a solid, reporting them after game. Retaliating isn't okay. Taking your frustration out on them isn't okay. Nobody here wants to see or deal with the degree of big egos and trash talk that dominates DOTA.

again it's part of not being too sensitive, everyone deserves the right to free speech and their opinion

Well, no, you leave that stuff behind when you enter the rift (or more meta: enter Riot's back yard).

There is a code of honor, and that includes being the bigger guy. And I, for one, am glad that it's being visibly enforced. I just wish it was enforced more. Eventually I hope we reach a happy medium where the toxic big egos can go play DOTA and get placed in low priority matchmaking where they can rage their face off among people who want the same, and those that want to play a game and worry about the game, rather than how much of a jerk the other guy is, can do so here.

I'm not claiming to be perfect, or some paragon of good behavior that has any business talking down to everyone else, but somehow, I've managed to not get a single warning since season 2 when I started playing this game.

It's not that hard. If someone as awful at this game as me can keep a civil tongue in their head, those of you who know what you're doing have no excuse.

No they don't. It needs to be harsher!
