A mute button exists for a reason

Why ban people for anything they say in chat? Anyone can just mute the person and move on with their life. I was permabanned after 6 years of playing the game. I've spent hundreds of dollars and banned for something that other people can mute. I never report people unless they are fucking ruining the game not for what they say in chat. People need to grow up.

Agreed, people need to grow up. I don't get why people feel the need to wage war on their teammates in a video game that'll be over in a few minutes. It's very childish. The chat box exists for a reason, and that reason isn't too flame others.

{quoted}Why ban people for anything they say in chat?

Because the reason the mute button exosts is not the reason you think.

It exists as a defense against toxicity, not as an tool to allow it.

so do bullet proof vests and armored glass. it doesn't make it ok to shoot at the people hiding behind them.

People need to grow up.

you should hurry up and do that then...

The mute feature is not an excuse to break the rules. It is a tool for players who do not - in the context of a given match - want to see the chat from a specific player (or pings/emotes, where applicable).

Likewise, the report feature is a tool to allow those players to prevent others from having to suffer the player's misbehavior, and hopefully gives the player in question the realization that they need to shape up.

I was permabanned after 6 years of playing the game. I've spent hundreds of dollars...

Good for you. But time/money spent doesn't exempt you from the rules.

...and banned for something that other people can mute.

Maybe they did mute? Either way, they can (and also clearly did) report you. If you don't like being punished...Maybe don't break the rules in the first place and not force other players to mute/report you?

I never report people unless they are fucking ruining the game not for what they say in chat.

Again; good for you. If that's how you want to use the report feature, so be it - you do you. But, that's not gonna change that other people don't want to deal with your flame, and will report you for it. And it certainly ain't gonna change the fact that your flame is against the rules.

People need to grow up.

Well said.

"I want to yell at people to make myself feel good, uwu why are you flipping me off?"

I'm all for removing chat as a feature in general or adding a "Type /mute all from the beginning" to the rules for the new players as it will make their experience a lot more pleasant. Yet I gladly report all enemies and teammates who flame and insult post-lobby because this is the type of players I was greeted with when entering League for the first time and I fucking love to see them banned.

If I forget to lock my door, you're still a thief if you walk in and take my stuff. Mute is a reactive measure too bad behavior, not an excuse for it. They're the terms you agreed to when you made your account - don't agree to things you don't agree with in future?
