It depends on what you said, but to be blunt, yes you can be banned even though they were shit talking too. Their actions do not justify toxicity from someone else. Just mute and report them and play the game.

Yes and no. No if you haven't been reported many times for toxic behavior. Yes if you have. They can look at chat logs...

If you engage in a flamewar with another player, even if the other person started it, you are still making the other three players in the game miserable.

The only thing worse than being flamed is having the chat filled with garbage while I'm trying to focus on the game because two of my teammates are at each other's throats. Please keep the experience of everyone in the game in mind.

Yes there is a possibility. It doesn't matter if it was one sided or an argument. All parties involved could be punished if the verbal abuse was intense enough.

Sounds like everyone had, broken portions of the summoners code. Tho it is testing sometimes, you have to take the higher road. As for having chat they or he said. All chat, post, Pre and In game are logged and visible when a report is submitted. Or a player is being reviewed. It's allways been like that, even back when the tribunal excisted. Anything you can see with the Riot API, system+ the communications is available. So people who int, rage or even decide to quit are logged appriopriately.

Try practicing this in the near future, if you have a passive aggressive player on your team, Mute them. Do not talk with them, do not encourage their behavior and you will never need to "Match", their level of intensity. Just mute, and continue playing your game, some players are crafty and don't say anything, but will do certain actions with their skills or champion to piss you off. You can't change that, and just make a note in your report. Riot has replays as well.

Retaliation isn't considered when you are up for a ban, so yes, what you say is your responsibility regardless of the context.

But one instance like that won't get you banned, maybe a chat restriction at most.

Yes, you can and probably will get banned if you do it again. Your actions are your responsibility, not theirs. As in the real world, your actions tend to be judged out of context, no excuses allowed.
