How's about, rather than we try to change your mind, you try to change our minds?
Why do you think that flaming should be allowed? What benefits does it provide, and do those benefits outweigh the obvious negatives that come from flaming?
Frankly, "change my mind" style posts have no place on PB. As far as I'm concerned, they already present themselves as non-discussions as you're simply putting forward an idea that you don't actually want to change your stance on, and simply wish to watch people ineffectually raise counterpoints to it. It's disingenuous posting, it's not conducive to actual discussion, and it serves no purpose.
But hey, I'll bite.
Flaming should remain as a bannable offense because there's no legitimate benefit to allowing flaming, especially in comparison to the damage it does to team cohesion and group morale. You're playing a team game, and that means you're supposed to be working with your teammates, not fighting them, and that's all that flaming is. You're wasting your time fighting someone through text - so if it's flaming an enemy, it's utterly ineffectual and in breach of the rules of sportsmanship, and if you're flaming an ally, you're fighting your own teammates instead of working with them, so you're both breaking the rules of sportsmanship and effectively trying to sabotage your team's chances of winning.
And to what benefit? A little bit of short-lived pleasure that you got the last word in against someone who you should be working with instead of harassing and fighting against? A little relief from venting out your frustrations on a teammate, when a dozen different and more effective methods of venting exist? Flaming accomplishes nothing that outweighs the fact that you are, effectively, low-key throwing the game.
And if that fact doesn't change your mind, then I pose the question: Did you even really come here to have your mind changed?
Your opinion of the rules is of zero relevance. When a cop stops you for going 40 in a 25 zone, you can claim "I think the limit should be 45 here" all you want. You're still getting a ticket. If a librarian asks you to keep your voice down while you use the facilities, shouting that libraries should be loud will simply get you escorted out. If you go to a friend's house who insists that you remove your shoes while you're in their home, "that's a stupid rule and I do what I want" will lose you a friend. If you are using someone else's services, facilities, equipment, etc., you abide by their rules or you deal with the consequences. If you think the rules should change, that is a completely different conversation (and I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for your chances at convincing Riot to change their rules to allow behavior like yours).

Okay, saying racist and homophobic things are as fine as saying curse words and you should never be banned for speech.
I find that people that flame, get people to respond to them and cause flame wars where they don't focus on the game. Flamers aren't as bad for the quality of the game as for example feeders, but they certainly lower the bar. Flaming often occurs in games of lower quality but flaming also lowers the quality of those games. For this exact reason I think flaming should be bannable.

The thing is, you need to be changing the community's and Riot's mind. Not the other way round!
Okay. You should never be banned for anything including homophobic/racist language. Think about it; everyone gets offended by things that are personal to them. Why is race or sexual orientation special? They can mute it just like flaming. Hell, flaming in general is annoying as shit. It doesnt really matter to me what they're saying, its more the audacity and arrogance to flame people over a video game, not a particular subject or opinion they have. Its like stfu either way. Maybe someone has a r%%%%%ed sibling, and thats what they take the most offense to. Why should saying r%%%%%ed not matter, but saying a made up word for a skin color does? I dont get that logic. Dont really care if I change your mind though. Its good that people have different opinions. I dont want a bunch of me's walkin around... that would be a disaster.
Also, wishing death? Why is that something bannable? What about wishing physical harm in general?

I play league top enjoy my time with friends after stressful days. I don't need my matches full of arrogant brainlits that choose to flame my choices, so I believe you should be permabanned because your toxic behavior ruins the game for the rest of us.
