/mute all is not a solution

Muted Observer·4/20/2018, 6:41:51 AM·19 votes·9,246 views

When people post something in these boards and people respond with /mute all you are not helping them you are concealing a growing problem that needs to be addressed with league. If the general best strategy is to mute your companions in a team game so that you can only communicate through pings which lets be serious see maybe 10% intended use and 90% passive aggressive spamming. Then there is something wrong with the community and ignoring it may work for you but it won't work for everyone or in the long run. If you have a disease go to a doctor treat it don't cover it up with a bandage and hope it goes away. I can't stop you from telling people looking for direction and help /mute all but just know it's not helpful, it's not insightful, it's the laziest solution that does nothing for the problem.

If you're too sensitive to play a game full of aggressive manchildren maybe you need a new multiplayer game?

It is helpful and for sensitive players, it is the solution.

/mute all is not a solution

it has worked for me several times

You really don't need anything other then pings to play a game. the chat is mainly for non-gameplay communication/12-year-olds flaming.

in truth there is no better choice then /mute all. Riot can't force someone to change their behavior, they can only sway peoples decisions. Mute all isn't the most ethical solution, but its the most efficient.

You mute and report.

Jerry SeinfeId4/20/2018, 4:14:35 PM3 votes

it is tho? Who's gonna offend you if they can't talk to you?

comedybingbongs4/20/2018, 2:10:17 PM3 votes

It is the solution. Praying for the Rito gods to "fix toxicity" is the dumbest fucking thing. League is a fun but frustrating game, and if you don't want to hear people's frustrations than you should certainly mute them.

There is almost 0 chance that muting someone will ever result in a lower level of strategic information being conveyed. Why? Because nobody below D1 will realistically have anything of any importance to every say

Kaioko4/20/2018, 4:11:37 PM3 votes

I mean the real solution is for players to realize that what they are doing is unacceptable and that in the process of flaming back the person flaming them they are making the situation worse and penalizing the remaining members of their team.

Unfortunately, this assumes that people can be halfway mature and use common sense, and most of the people who complain on here have proven that they are incapable of both.

/mute the guy telling you to off yourself while jerking is to ur mums fat smelly p**** because surely this is the first time they have ever said something like that in chat.

Hello!

Mute is for sure a huge help as it prevents you from seeing what the team is saying if you feel that they are being rude. Which could in turn distract you from your game play. It would be better to mute and simply communicate through pings. It would give you a much better chance to win. Its not a good idea to tell the person that you are muting them because it's just a way to egg people on and potentially send them on tilt, which can end up effecting your game in a more negative manner over just muting / ignoring them.

It's almost like muting them doesn't stop their toxic ACTIONS. But who cares about Toxic Actions as long as you don't offend someone with deadly WORDS.

I think that's mainly said to people who put up with toxicity for an entire game, telling us how offended they were by multiple statements, quoting said player that was offending them... It's like, how did you know he said all that? You got offended by the very first thing, yet you kept reading line after line of insults? You need to mute all next time. You come here telling us how offended you were, yet you didn't choose to mute them. It's like people just want to be offended so they can come cry about it on the forums or something. A mute all would have helped greatly.

How do you suggest we help these people on the forums? Say sorry that happened to you? Just offer sympathy and no solution whatsoever? We aren't the designers of the game. We cant go hunt down the baddies who hurt their feelings. What do you recommend? Where is YOUR solution? Come on, don't be lazy...

But its the only option

Riot is chat banning for giving advice.

Noor Sakata4/20/2018, 10:35:59 AM1 votes

I agree , it doesn't help at all , in fact , it makes everything worse if they know that they are muted

fatherdarius4/20/2018, 12:20:58 PM1 votes

It isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, you're correct.

It's one of multiple tools for dealing with toxicity, along with muting pings and emotes, post-game report options as well as support tickets.

Growing problem? Its called taking responsibility for yourself and not expecting some big brother figure to come in and fix your problems. Alot of people like myself could give a fk less about toxic players, its the ones who go into ranked without trying to win that are annoying because they're the ones there is no answer to.

DeloricVI4/21/2018, 6:59:18 AM1 votes

yeah, tell me about it. Last time I muted everyone because they were being toxic and muted half of the team's pings, I ended up with 3 reports for "Greifing" even though I told them they are all muted because they were being distracting. Good thing I didn't get even a chat ban for it.

But either way, yeah, I kind of see where you're going. I mean, I've been saying for a long time that chat can be a valuable tool to tell people what's going on without being a Discord voice chat or being partied up with everyone on your team. And, besides, these people generally are going to ruin the experience for at least 2 out of 4 people that didn't mute them and continue to engage with them.

I mean, mute isn't a bad solution as long as everyone uses it. If the person is muted by everyone then they can't get a reaction, which is what they're usually looking for when they're being toxic.

And the passive-aggressive spamming thing is spot-on. I try to keep my ping usage limited to 80% useful pings, and a solid 20% passive-aggressive pings (hey, no one's perfect) but there are some people that just ping missing all over your lane when they see you flash when you shouldn't have, or whiff your ult.

Sorry bot lane is so boring, that you can micro-manage the rest of your team while supporting, and passively-aggressively ping their lane whenever they make the smallest mistake, Sona.

People seem to misunderstand something here I'm not debating the effectiveness of mute all as a solution to toxicity in game. I am rebuking its use as a catch all answer to anyone looking for anything in player behavior. Every single THREAD I go into has /mute all as one if not most of its responses. It's not conducive to the point of the behavior threads to just tell someone who is asking for help in dealing with their own behavior or others behavior to simply ignore them. I do appreciate the response given and the level of depth this conversation has gotten though, very engaging to see people talking about how to deal with the mute issue.

DestructoDave4/21/2018, 7:51:07 PM1 votes

My issue with it mute all is you are still punished by Mute all. I saw around here someone saying that its taking forever to get their honor back and they have been muting all forever.

It was replied with by some super poster Riot wants you to be a good part of the community and say nice/helpful things all the time. What? So even if you mute all, you still get punished because you arent posting GJ every 5 seconds?

If mute all is what keeps you a non-toxic part of the community, so be it. It shouldn't come with stipulations. Its punishment enough to basically be playing a single player game at that point with no actual player interaction, much less punishing people's honor.

Everyone reacts to things differently. I dont think people who get in trouble for raging are somehow lesser human beings. I have a friend who refuses to play League because it makes him mad. He never rages in any game, but league causes him untold amounts of stress and anger. He just refuses to play the game. Anytime I come back to League and try to get him to play some he just refuses. Doesn't like getting mad. So if people have a work around to deal with it, they shouldn't be punished because they aren't spamming feel goods every 3 minutes.

It's helpful, but definitely not a solution.

i agree. i ask for tips for new champs or if my game is going sour. i often get ignored as does my requests for team work more often than not.
