What is boosting? And when is Boosting "Bad" and a bannable offense?

I asked this question, and I'm getting a lot of mixed responses.

> Would it be considered "Boosting" if a couple of my high Diamond/Challenger friends made smurfs and carried me? I mean, I'm not paying them anything, other than coming over for a few slices of pizza and some rootbeer and having a good ol' lan style party. > Isn't that what Dynamic Queue is about? "Playing with friends > It's not like I would be paying some shady people for a service, I'd just be Dynamic Queuing.

So where does the line between "boosting" and "Just playing Dynamic Queue" stand? Just curious.

Its perfectly fine playing with friends who can carry you. As long as you play on your account. Friends will guide u and tell u what to do, that way u will improve faster. That way both your skill and elo rises.

from riot's perspective, boosting is ok as long as they arent on your account and theyre on a smurf. as long as you're on your own account it's fine

Most people would agree that boosting is using some method to get your account to a Rank that you can't really compete at. To the other players in you game, it doesn't matter if you got to Diamond with a premade or not if you can hold your own at that level. If you can't, then you're "boosted."

Scazzman is right as far as Riot is concerned - so long as you're the only one playing on your account you're fine.

Why wouldnt you want to earn the rank yourself? You dont really play at that level if you dont earn it yourself.

Interesting, thanks for replies.

Also, this is a purely hypothetical question that I brought up on Reddit, and I got a lot of mixed responses. Some people said yes it's 100% boosting, and others said no it's fine.

I'm hoping a Rioter will reply and let me know.

Getting carried is when you and a higher level log in to unique accounts to help you raise your mmr.

Getting boosted is having someone else to play on your account raise your mmr.

The first is ok because you are playing and, most likely, learning to play at higher level than previously.

The second is bannable because, aside from subverting the matchmaking system, it involves account sharing.
