Apparently, playing something off meta to have fun isn't allowed.

After playing a game as an off meta champ in bot lane, and enduring the flaming toxicity of another player, my account received a 25 game chat suspension for simply defending myself from them. Apparently, players in this ELO shouldn't be allowed to play what they want and have fun, which is all my friend and I aimed to do.

Here's the chat that the ban shows me from after game:

As you can see, there's no hate speech, no racism or anything like that, just me responding to our pyke and defending myself. But yet, of course, it doesn't show you any of what him and the rest of the team said, or any of the massive spams of pings constantly on top of me, it only shows you my "wrongs". Yet because I'm playing a champion that people don't see in bot lane, all pyke has to do is say to report me, and here I am with a chat ban. Everyone in this community is aiming to win in normals instead of simply having fun, and as a result they flame and report people for playing what they want to play. League of Legends should be a casual game that we can enjoy, but with a community like this, it's too idiotically competitive to even TRY something new. I'd rather not be banned every time I give something a shot and endure the relentless attacks of both teams. That's not right.

Here's the thing: You didn't get a chat restriction for playing off-meta. You got a chat restriction for arguing with players, calling for reports, and being negative.

This kind of behavior isn't good, and it's certainly not defending yourself. Defending yourself would have been simply muting the problem players, or, ironically, something that was actually in your chat log.

You can explain your off-meta decision and defend yourself without calling teammates useless, accusing them of throwing, and calling for reports against them. Being combative in your "defense" is not defending, it's retaliating.

Those two comments were probably the make-or-break point for a penalty.

And with that being said, it is only one game of history. In order to gain a penalty such as a chat restriction, there has to be a documented history of negative behaviour. Playing off-meta isn't inherently reportable, unless you're doing it to the detriment of your teammates, which I am sure you weren't trying to do here.

Not all negative behaviour consists of Hate Speech either. Hate Speech and other charged words are zero tolerances, which can escalate a penalty if need be. But, something as simple as retaliation, especially consistent retaliation, is grounds for a penalty.

Were your teammates perfect? Probably not, but retaliating against them didn't work in your favour, in this case. If you reported them after the game, they will eventually be subject to scrutiny as well, but if all you do is leave the lobby and move on, the likelihood of some kind of justice for their behaviour is diminished.

I see you getting punished verbal reasons, and specifically for being passive-aggressive and asking for reports.

The system punishes people based on consistency x severity. Which means that you aren't punished for this game alone and there has to be other games of consistent similar behavior (unless you lied to us and edited stuff out, if that's the case, shame on you). The reform card only shows you 1-5 recent games as examples of unacceptable behavior.

Off-meta plays are fine regardless of ELO.

Have fun in normals, people want to win in ranked, and they want to feel comfortable. You playing Nunu bot or Soraka mid is just going to make them feel its a loss in the lobby. Sure, they don't know you, but I would want my teammates to feel confident going into a match.

don't trade for reports as it is a common tool for griefers / toxic players
