Agree with Permanent Ban?

Hello Summoners!

It is with great regret that I inform you that my account has been permanently banned. After speaking with two Riot representatives, it seems this is irreparable. I have lost the war my friends, but there is still time for you!

I admittedly have had some toxic bouts in the past, but this time was different, and I wonder if you guys agree or disagree. It seems to me Riot has become far too strict in a game that allows freeform text.

Under 'Section 5' in the Terms of Agreement, two Riot employees deemed the system was correct in permanently banning my account for this:

NOTE: I have replaced the employee name with 'RIOT EMPLOYEE' to not break any further rules.

When I asked why I was banned, this was the part of chat log I received: xasfnz: lets ff at 15 xasfnz: This team is bad xasfnz: Ori ults xasfnz: to ks xasfnz: lol xasfnz: awful team

It is worth noting this doesn't include anything that was said to me before, and I was including myself in "team" and I just say "lol" to an obvious KS. Ori previous to this play called me an idiot and spam pinged me dying. I mentioned this to the Riot representative:

09:24:20 PM) xasfnz: I wasn't even saying it to flame my team.. I didn't even single anyone out. (09:24:23 PM) xasfnz: I was including myself.. (09:24:28 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: we want people to be responsible for the things they say

Following that up to understand the summarize the situation: (09:22:07 PM) xasfnz: So an account that I spent years building up and hundreds of dollars on is permanently banned because I said my team was bad? (09:22:13 PM) xasfnz: After getting flamed by them? (09:22:30 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: correct

I then asked what I violated: (09:35:12 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: iii. Harassing, stalking or threatening other players while using the Riot Services; (09:35:21 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: We would consider this behavior to be underharassing (09:35:31 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: but its better explained in detail in the Summoners code (09:35:43 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: the Terms are more general to give us the freedom to act appropiatly (09:36:34 PM) xasfnz: Harassing: to disturb persistently; torment, as with troubles or cares; bother continually; pester; persecute. (09:36:55 PM) xasfnz: Saying my team is awful falls under that? (09:36:55 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: Debating the definitions wont really work here (09:37:12 PM) [RIOT EMPLOYEE]: if its negative it can ban an account

I want to know what the community thinks of this. I have been a long time player of League of Legends and I have enjoyed playing with my friends a lot. I see streamers saying far worse things in chat and they seem to get away with it. This is my only account. I have bought 50+ skins, been gifted 10+ more, and had 99K blue essence and almost every champion. I have played since season 4 and this is extremely disappointing. I could not even get my friends I have added and was told that is part of the ban.

My personal opinion is, if they are going to be this strict on what people are saying, then Riot should not give people freeform text. Make it more limited like other games. Saying the word "bad" or "awful" in a competitive game does not seem like a reason to warrant a permanent ban on someone who has supported a game for so long.

I apologize for the wall of text. If you have made it this far, please let me know what you think!

I once got 25-game chat banned for saying "I'm not retarded" when someone was asking for my ip address

Well, if you came here gor sympathy, here, you have it. I don't think you should've been punished gor this, I do not think dishing out real bans from the game for chat related offenses is ever adequate and I feel deep regret that you get treated thousandfold worse than you treat the others as a punishment.

I do not know how you are taking it, but I know how I would - there are no words people can possibly say in league chat to me that would make me feel bad compareable to losing a league account. This is overly and infuriatingly harsh and it should not happen even to the worst flamers.

Permabans in videogames were always expected to be reserved for cheating, hacking, major bug abusing and disruptive use of game mechanics (aka actual trolling). Riot decided to revolutionize this. Here is the result.

You aren't allowed to say anything negative when playing League. Twitter, on the other hand...

I just want to say to all the people that have taken the time to vote, read, or post in this thread -- thank you.

I did not expect to get so many responses. Regardless of you opinion, it has been nice to be able to speak this through with the community.

Can you post the whole log?

If that was the only thing you ever said that was negative, then no it wouldn't justify a permanent ban. However, you don't get permanently banned for a single occurrence.
