3rd party programs

I understand why riot is banning people who use 3rd party programs to get an unfair advantage over everyone else, but it really bothers me that they are going after ALL 3rd party programs.

Not all 3rd party programs give you an advantage or make LoL unfair, I even understand that using custom skins, while not giving you an advantage either, they do kinda interfere with riot's main revenue from casual players, but really, banning people even for just a voice changing program?

I have seen a lot of people posting in the forum that they were banned just for using a voice changing program, some saying that it gave them an unfair advantage (really?) others saying they just got a generic 3rd party program ban message. Here's an example of one they posted:

"Hello, Effectively, modification of the voices language consists in a modification of our client. out system detected the use of this program during your games. I hope you understand why it's unpleasant and frustrating to play against players that use a tool to modify the game experience. We took measures to protect equity and integrity in the Fields Of Justice."

The only 3rd party program I use is just for being able to change the voices in the game to Japanese, I don't have a problem with the voices in English, but I really enjoy listening to my favorite anime's voice actors.

I feel that this is really unfair, I'm not hurting anyone, I'm not getting any advantage, I'm not "modifying the game experience" for anyone but myself and just with the voices, and the only reason I use that program is because the way I used to do it, without any other program, doesn't work anymore.

I think that it's completely understandable that riot doesn't want 3rd party programs to be used, but at least make things like language change available, I don't think it would be hard and it certainly wouldn't hurt anyone. Because I don't understand, at all, why language lock the game, are you telling me all the people in NA have English as their main language? Besides it's not like they're 3rd party voices either. They are the official voices of the game in different regions, why waste them?

So please riot, make this an official feature, you already have different languages, why not be able to use whichever one is your mother tongue or simply the one you like the most.

I've never heard of them banning for VO modifications before, and actually seen them be ok with it. Could you share a screenshot of the ticket where this came from?

Full disclosure, I don't have access to my PS Tools at the moment and won't until tomorrow. But we'll follow up on this to see what happened.

For clarity, here are some thoughts.

We haven't banned for changing the language of champions in League. Although it's not officially supported, it's not something we would ban for.

With that said, this looks like a case on EU, so it's possible the EU team made a decision to take this action on their own. This could be because they recently found new information that pushed them towards the decision. (ie: the specific action was leading to a security hole or something a long those lines)

It's also possible that the specialist accidentally provided incorrect information or misread the info in the tool. For example, it may be that the account was banned for the use of an illegal 3rd party program, perhaps one that scripts, hacks AND can change voice files if a player wants to. We do know that some 3rd party programs do a large number of things and let the player choose which they want. However, if a program allows for the ability to cheat in game, then we'll ban for the use of it, even if a player claims they are not using that option.

That may be what happened here. For players who are saying that doesn't match the story in the post, also know that sometimes aspects of the story may be conveniently left out.

And to top it off, it's possible something could be going on I didn't account for.

Regardless I just wanted to give some transparency on where we're at.

Although this is an EU Team decision, I'll poke around tomorrow, and see if we can get more information out.

You are correct. I'm not sure why this support representative gave this answer, and I've asked for someone to look into it.

That said, this is NOT why the person in question was banned. It was for a mod/tool detection as they said, but it had nothing at all to do with a VO swap. That's all I can really say on the matter though, obviously.

Thank you, that's a relief, But I won't use it until someone from riot says it's safe, I don't want my account banned just for that, and sorry if I used that post as an example, it's just that somehow once I read it it made me feel scared, because this game means a lot to me, even if I'm just a filthy casual player, I really enjoy this game.

And by the way, this was the software I used to change the voices: http://lexwah.com/lvoc/ (I already changed it back, and deleted the program.)

and obviously I don't want to use any program that interferes with lol and the game experience of anyone, that's why I'm asking riot to make it an official feature, unless it really gives me an advantage somehow, so if someone can explain to me how this makes the game unfair for others I will totally understand.

Custom skins can confer an advantage. For example, what if Vayne were BRIGHT RED. when she reappears from invisibility, you would instantly see where she was. If you doubt that a skin can confer an advantage, note that some skins are prohibited in pro play for just this reason.

Well, like I said before, I can understand about the skins, but the only reason I made this post was the 3rd party programs that change the characters' voices, so if you know any way this is interfering with the game for other people, giving me some kind of advantage, please tell me.
