I'd like to play lol in peace, no chat just pings + the game

Summary: I'd like to just play lol in peace with no chat (all muted) and only using pings. I feel I can communicate all my intentions or threats to my teamates with pings much faster then I can type. I don't want to get penalties for not having chat on.

In LoL I pretty much stay silent outside of the rare time I feel the need to type out something strategy related. I rely on pings mostly. I'm not into critiquing other players, or calling others mistakes, I keep whatever I do say positive, usually just some "nice job" or "Thanks" things like that. I've very rarely seen anything strategy related besides Summon usage or Baron call out so I don't think the chat is offering very much at the low level I play at. Despite being silent, on the occasion that someone's really being a jerk I might stand up for me or someone else which gets me in more trouble and hurts my performance from typing, gets me different kinds of penalties, I'm guilty too basically. (In my defense I don't bite, and it's got to be pretty ridiculous trolling, insulting to get me to that point. Shame on me for that.)

I see very hateful comments a lot which hurts performance of the team when players rage-afk, start feeding, argue instead of farm. I find this has a much higher cost then the benefit of being able to know for example the rare case someone calls out if a summoner ability is used, or if it's baron time (I can figure it out without chat). The chat ruins it for me and makes me not want to play. I haven't had many experience of rewarding , friendly, feel good chat etc. I see lots of other players quiet like me so i can only speak for the worst of the bunch and my own experience, I can say it's a majority of my games that team mates act really mean to someone on the team (If that doesn't happen usually the team is just silent anyways).

I tried "muting all" for a while right at the start of the match and I found lol to be much more enjoyable and I was happy about it. I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything that pings can't provide but I wound up getting reports at the end of the game maybe 10-20% of the time. It seems the general habit is if a player is noticing I'm not following their typed out commands or insults they start spamming pings on me and most likely try to get the rest of the team worked up about it.

The reports added up and wound up getting me up a que penalty and I think some ban on only playing Draft mode for many games I can't remember it was a while ago. I stopped because ignoring all seemed to be digging my account deeper into a penalty hole.

I'd very much like to safely be able to mute chat. I'm aware of the drawbacks of not using chat and in context to the benefits for me it's a clear decision for both enjoyment and performance.

While I'm here, whatever the report system is, this is the most unpleasant community by far I've experienced in a game. In my opinion this system doesn't work, and the reporting system itself seems to be used more for bullying and threatening then for promoting sportsmanlike play. Why bother acting like Mommy, it seems to do more harm then good, I really can't see the lack of it making the community any worse but at least without it chat wouldn't be filled with players threatening to report others every single loss.

I understand your feeling entirely. Played a ranked game yesterday where the team pretty much gave up at 10 mins. 10 mins into the game and we were throwing the towel in because some little kid somewhere was throwing a fit and ruining the game for everyone. I haven't played much ranked since I hit gold and honestly feel I may never play it again due to the way I felt after getting out of the game. There is no reason why people need to throw around the amount of hate or excessive pings to get me to react the exact way they want me to. I want to play ranked and enjoy the game not get destroyed by hate speech if something goes wrong.
