"You mean we aren't going to see the Force Awakens? WTF is the Danish Girl?!? It's a trap!!!"

I want to enjoy my time in LoL, I really do. But, I am so tired of someone leaving the game or not connecting at all then losing 20-25 ranked LP on a 4v5; especially when I only earn 10-15 for a win. It is like a damn pyramid scheme. As soon as the person leaves, goes afk, never connects, etc. other players turn toxic and what should be a fun 30-45 min experience turns into a huge disappointment that makes me question why I spent my free "fun" time in this game.

I really wish something could be done but in searching the boards, I have seen that it is often discussed and never addressed because of the chance of people abusing a fair system.

The only power that I have as a player to express my annoyance with this system (other than these boards) is with my wallet. So I plan to refrain from making any further in game purchases.

The answer to this problem seems pretty simple to me.

Implement an in progress queue system. Let players queue for "new" AND/OR "in progress". If someone leaves, increase the LP penalty Those who are left, reduce their LP penalty The substitute should be guaranteed not to receive negative LP with the chance to earn full game LP if the team wins. The substitute should spawn in with the average level of the 4 remaining teammates and the average total gold earned by them to spend immediately. This is not perfect but certainly is better than the crap we have now.

IF you got this far, kudos and thanks for reading my rant =)

Not to be 'that guy' but trolls would use this system to get into games in progress and feed intentionaly because they can not lose LP.

I think the fairer way to handle it is to reduce lp lost by the team with the afk and have SEVERE punishements for afks. (like 1st afk / leave = 1 hour ban from ranked and increase quickly from there if it happens again within a certain time frame)

To be fair, trolls would eventually be banned due to reports. But most people would rather point to how something can be abused by a small few than how it would help the greater number of people.

You fool.. Force Awakens isn't coming out until December 18th. That should have been your first clue. :P

Are you suggesting that they affect MMR gains and losses, or only LP? Because MMR is what actually matters. LP is completely cosmetic.

Second question: If MMR were affected, what do you do to fix the fact that people would have inaccurate MMR after participating in games containing a substitute?

These are all ideas that have been kicked around before, and all of them still have the same flaws.

  • Substitute is thrown into an upside-down match, with no penalty for not trying
  • Substitution becomes the best way to climb, seeing as you can only climb and never fall
  • Substitute would probably want other items/runes/masteries, but that getting that for free could completely negate any strategy that was being enacted by the enemy
  • Booster/Smurf intentionally takes the LP hit while playing with someone else, knowing they can make it back later in a few games on their own

As for "vote with your wallet", have you bought RP every time Riot makes a decision you agree with? If not, and if most players don't, then the concept of "vote with your wallet" is meaningless in this case. I'd also like to add that many people don't buy RP because of other reasons completely independent of them agreeing or disagreeing with changes (or lack there of), making the notion that Riot can tell you're even "voting" even more laughable.
