Player Punishment System Inquiry

So, I've heard a lot of rumors about how Riot determines who gets punished and what punishment they receive, and I'd like to know which ones are correct if anyone knows, preferably a Rioter.

The following are rumors I've heard. I'd love if anyone could let me know which are true.

  • You won't get punished by leaverbuster unless someone reports you. (This one often comes up when playing with a group of five friends and one has to go for a reason beyond their control, and the others don't mind, since they're in a group.)

  • All previous offenses are remembered forever, and later ones will be increased accordingly. For instance, when I first started playing, 13 yr old me would often start a game without checking when dinner would be ready. I was temporarily banned a couple of times, but this was about four years ago and I'd like to know if those are still being held against me.

  • Contrary to the previous rumor, I've also heard that any punishes for leaves are forgotten after a month. I'd like to know which is true.

  • Often times when someone is toxic and someone threatens to report them if they don't stop, they'll just laugh at them because they believe they have to be reported (x) times over a certain number of days, so they can get away with being toxic once or twice a week without repercussion.

  • I personally doubt this one is true but I read on a post here that someone got perma-banned for a first offence... I really doubt this is possible but I'd like to know if it is.

Thank you so much for your time! I'd really appreciate any responses, and I think other members of the community would like to know what will or won't get them in trouble. Also, I understand if the inner workings of this branch of Riot is not open source, but I'd love to know if there is anything that we are allowed to know. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs] Thanks again!

  1. Sorry, I forget about this one ;(

  2. Time does not diminish your record, only playing more games without exhibiting the toxic behavior will.

  3. Same as 2.

  4. Same as 2 again. If they play 1 game a day for a week and are toxic in all of them, it's no different than if they played 7 games in one day and were toxic in them. Time will not diminish their record, only playing games without being toxic will.

  5. It is possible to be permabanned for one offense. Riot manually does these, and this is only given for the most severe offenses. Riot takes things like hate speech and death threats very seriously, so you can bet if someone got a permaban due to behavior in a single game it was really bad. (I'm not counting mistaken bans and chargebacks or hacking bans and the like)

Rumor one: You still can be punished by leaverbuster because it is an automated system, reporting just speeds its process last i checked (I'm unsure but considering how i've heard it was designed it is an automated system and reports speed it up hence with 0 reports for AFK after an AFK a window may pop up saying the warning message for leaving games were you then have to type "i agree")

Rumor 2: False they are NOT remembered forever (see 3)

Rumor 3: They are not completely forgotten as they decay over time. As such i think it is 3 months(i believe) without a punishment decays it 1 tier (personally informed and saw it on the new reform system riot Lyte made)

Rumor 4: No if your offense is bad enough you can be banned after as few as 1 or two games but generally it takes a few reports/games to get a punishment (people i know have been banned after one or two games See rumor 5)

Rumor 5: Yes, you can be perma banned after one game of toixic behavior. Now to do this you have to be extremely toxic and probable spam racist, homophobic, and other slurs as well as say very offensive things. It is hard to be permabanned in general but after one game is a challenge but yes it can happen. (happened to my friend and a few others i think)

(this is all from things i've seen, had happen, or been personally informed of due to being a previous toxic behavior offender)

The fourth rumor is correct. If you're regularly playing games daily, being toxic once or twice a week and getting reported for it won't get you banned. Smart trolls will never get beat by the system because it is too lenient (unless it's hate speech/death threats, maybe.. I've heard of some people getting quickly banned for more extreme forms of harassment). If you only play one or two games a week and get consistently reported "once or twice a week" then you'll get busted. Gotta spread out those games you want to ruin!

Leave buster can detect and punish on it's own. You can get punished without getting reported.

You can work and regain a positive account status over time. Not sure on how long it takes but I know it can be done.

•Contrary to the previous rumor, I've also heard that any punishes for leaves are forgotten after a month. I'd like to know which is true.

It's not a time frame but more of a amount of time spent. The more games you play as a positive constructive player the better your account standing can get.

•Often times when someone is toxic and someone threatens to report them if they don't stop, they'll just laugh at them because they believe they have to be reported (x) times over a certain number of days, so they can get away with being toxic once or twice a week without repercussion.

Depending on the severity of the toxicity it might take them longer to get punished but if they are consistently toxic they will be punished.

•I personally doubt this one is true but I read on a post here that someone got perma-banned for a first offence... I really doubt this is possible but I'd like to know if it is.

This one is true. It take EXTREME toxic behavior. Death threats, Homophobic/racial slurs can lead to a perma ban on a first offense if severe enough.
