[Personal Opinion] Unjustified Chat Restrictions

So early today I played a game with my cousin as a duo bot lane, had a really rude and out of line team mate that flamed the team and kept asking for team mates to be reported for trolling; all the while he was sitting on the pad afk saying he was done playing. Game ended, we lost, no big deal, move on. That's what I thought, till I got slapped with a 25 game chat restriction.

I'm not here to rant and rave about how terrible the system is and claim innocence in the whole en devour, but I will claim that what was considered unsportsmanlike behavior in a, team game, is completely shocking. Attached below is screen shots of my chat log from the client, a replay of the game, and copied text from said chat log. There was only one game in the card that was sent to me showing why I was restricted from chat.

Once again, this is mainly for a discussion of whether or not the rules have gotten too strict for both an online game and a team game. (I left the Player support specialist name out as to keep their privacy, while also blocking out the champs name so no one can look back and see said person playing via match history)

I assume you don't know, but riots ban bot for chat is automated, and uses keywords to chat restrict you. You say enough of these keywords, you earn more and more points, if the points reach a certain threshhold, the bot bans.

Keywords I noticed: ff, leaving, trolling, toxic, salt, afk.

The bot doesn't take context, it takes what words you say at flat value, If you spell it weird or say vague things that people will normally not use, the bot will not detect it.

Riot's bot has been banning a lot of people falsely lately, and they're not doing anything about it. I suggest finding a new game, Riot doesn't really care about the players supporting their games atm.

You were punished for your continual arguing/harassment of another player. It does not matter that they were breaking the rules - you do not get to break the rules in return.

welcome to league of legends where we un-perma Tyler1 while he did and does promote toxicity to an audience of at least 10k everyday and flamed a Rioter on stream, and keep banned the ones who only defended themselves...

RIP. Do not ever do this again or you'll eventually lose your account, @catwalk this is NOT justified but it doesn't matter to Riot anymore. Riot doesn't have the time to sort out EVERY punishment especially with all of the false reports that people make... (imagine having to sort through a Minimum of 50k false reports every day just to see the real ones)

My main (according to riot over 3500 hours played while being 'among 20% most honorable in 3 different categories) got perma banned from 2 weeks of being fed up with people flaming me or others. My reasons for being punished looked just like yours, I tried to make sense of things that the toxic player couldn't, and as a result I became part of the toxicity simply because I responded and asked the true toxic to actually tell me 'how I'm bad' or 'what makes him better'

btw, expect downvotes and negativity because everyone likes to rub it in your face that you got punished, Especially if you didn't deserve it.

I agree with you 100% on this. I think that at this point, practically anything can get you punished so long as it is deemed as being 'Negative'. Anything. The issue here is that you got reported multiple times before this made it to the PSS's desk for a manual review. And once you rack up those reports then they basically punish you as long as there is anything negative in your chat logs. I know that its hard to be positive with people who are being toxic or trolling/flaming. And so, its for this reason that I mute my teammates and everyone else around right before the match starts. I suggest that you do the same!

I expected the downvoted entirely, that’s alright with me honestly. I just felt like this would be a great discussion starter with those that can look at a post with a clear mind and not a negative influence which a decent part of the community has installed. Like all online games, there are flaws in the system, sometimes you gotta tough it out or just start anew. I tried my hardest for an entire year to get out of honor level 0 hell, and managed to get to honor level 1 checkpoint two before all this went down. In the end though, no matter how much I’ve spent, a game is just that, a game. Just sad how money and ego has turned something that was supposed to be fun and entertaining into a nest of toxicity and cult like behavior.

Don't take it to heart. Honestly, while the PB board members are diligent in their own rights and they all have their pro's and cons individually or as a group. They mostly downvote everything! Literally, 99% of the topics here get downvoted. Unless its a topic on someone's account being hacked, its usually downvoted. If you want to actually discuss, you should do it in the G&D forum. Another thing to note is that some of the board members in the PB section are either here to rub one's toxic reports in their faces. Or just be that little guy who likes to play the cop for Riot and tell you in a self-righteous tone on how you've been toxic and were rightfully punished. Its rare for board members to try to 'talk' with an OP and actually help them out or understand them and their issues/where they're coming from. Maybe some of them are numbed down because they've seen too many. Or- its because they just mirror all the toxic posters as one of those who harassed them and so, the treatment is poor. Its just how it is.

That said, talking about the topic at hand. Riot's punishment policy has become so difficult to implement with a 'human' flavor because, in my opinion, their work never reduces. Whether they can or cannot. Accounts are banned but the players behind those accounts are never banned for a fixed period of time. These players aren't asked to stop playing the game for some time and told to chill; to control their toxic levels. I don't know if this is because they want them to keep playing the game. Or because they aren't able to id ban someone! Whatever the reason is, it causes the report load to never decrease. So you ban an account and the player has 9 alternate ones or simply makes a new one! And you're back to square one. Because he's harassing someone again, you're getting the same number of reports again.

And this why the way that they handle things feel so unfair at times. Its not consistent either! Bots are used to scan reports. I don't know how this AI bot is evolving. Whether it is actually learning, how its learning. What is the degree of learning, to what point it will be able to judge reports once its reached its zenith? Whether it will be able to judge context and make an assessment of a report with human degree of comprehension? But at the moment, its mostly just something that racks up reports. And blots out players who use ZT words, regardless of context. Like, some guy calling an actual feeder running down mid - Troll. Gets a smack on the back of his hand with a 10-game CR, just like the guy running down mid. That's the state of things right now.

So, that is why there's a lack of 'human' flavor. And its going to remain so while there is a huge player base which is probably not reducing anytime soon! The best way to keep yourself safe or defend yourself from other people's nonsense is to simply mute everyone and everything. Play the game at your own pace!

Guys, guys. Again, this is a discussion topic, not one to attack another board member. Please be respectful

Ok so since its just an opinion based topic....

My opinion is

"Catwalk Lady: SAlting people for ranks" Yet you had to scroll for your chat log. so who is the one that is salty?

Facts. And this is how I do it...might not work for you but,,,,I GURENTEE 100% no more chat bans.

Disable chat....if it tilts you. SO EVEN IF you do type...it still wont send it.

Nightsky Pirate1/11/2020, 2:41:13 AM2 votes

This is rather mildly negative. Honestly, this is showing a new low bar (in the positive regard) for what constitutes punishable chat. My suspicion is that the automated system is tagging this as punishable because people are simply frequently reporting people with chat logs similar to this.

Is it accurate? I think it's wrong. Will they reverse the bot's judgement? NOPE.

The only merit here, I think, is that you've had prior violations and the sensitivity has shot up. I'd hate to be in your position. Your wording was... relatively polite. I'd advise outright turning off chat or refuse to respond or speak about toxic players at all. I'll be personally adding that to my list: pretend the toxic person doesn't exist.

Or I might quit playing, because I think its objectionable to hold my tongue and trust in a system that only somewhat stops toxicity. As an American I expect to be allowed to defend myself if I feel needlessly attacked, physically or otherwise.

ModPrandine1/13/2020, 7:08:29 AM1 votes

Honestly aside from some bickering here and there there's nothing that stands out as being punishable in my eyes, although I could see how it might be if this was a trend of yours over multiple games. That said in the future I would recommend you bicker and get into fights less often and just mute the problem players when they come up, tempting as it may be to argue with them. Honestly the support agent hit the nail on the head when it comes to advice, so while I personally disagree with this punishment I do agree with the reps advice on what to do in the future should this problem arise again. Best of luck in your future games.
