Off-Meta Role
I can totally get behind the notion of Riot shaking up the meta to an extent that its weirdness is even being reported on by non-gaming press (btw the press on the whole seems largely in favor of such a shakeup, but of course they are - it must be dreadfully dull to just report on iterations of the same strategy for every game for years).
However, I'm concerned that players who want to start experimenting with off-meta strategies are liable to be labeled as trolls or inters, particularly when the new strategies don't pan out as intended.
Ideally, there would be a checkbox or something before trying to join a game that would separate the off-meta experimentalists from the on-meta traditionalists, but that sort of player pool fragmentation is something I can't see Riot adding to its matchmaking system.
So the next best thing, I think, is at least to announce in champion select that you intend to play off-meta so more traditional players can adjust their selections and playstyle to compensate. Probably another abbreviation like off or omt.
Anyway, if the grassroots approach is what needs to happen to establish some sort of convention to allow off meta play in the game, I guess it would need to start on some community forum like this.
For the sake of argument, make the assumption that League will be a mixed meta game for awhile and the intent of this thread is how to develop a common terminology for it. Obviously, some players want everyone to play by the established (top, mid, adc, sup,jg) meta, others want everyone to start experimenting with a new meta, and some will astutely point out that /mute all sidesteps the issue by avoiding communication altogether, but what I'm really curious about is what decorum ought players follow in a mixed meta environment so such strategy choices don't come off as antagonistic.
