Can someone being purposefully degrading and rude be banned?

I just played this ranked game against on of the worst players ever. He played Jax. After winning late against my losing bot lane he bm'ed for the rest of the game. Taunting people with their winrate and other garbage. He insulted many, not using any wrong words I think, but the way he used them were the worst. Told us to surrender, or that it wasn't worth the fight. I didn't get involved until late in the game where I told him to keep talking. Unfortunately I have trouble addressing since I am coming off of a ban and would not like a perm ban. This means I'm afraid to tell him that he is a scummy player that the community does not need. In the end the worse I said was that he was a "Jerk" and "scum" and if I get banned for that but he doesn't get banned I have lost faith in this community. Anyway, I really think that bming and other such rude behavior needs to be stopped. Riot says that "90% of players know its a competitive environment and that everyone needs to be treated with respect" but if this is the case then we have to stop the rudeness of the community. Anyway time to get off my soapbox. I hope there can be some discussion about this. For now I cri item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070

To answer the title: Yes.

In regards to forum rules: please remove the players name as it goes against No Name and Shame.

Involving punishment: if you reported him, his logs will be reviewed. You may not get a notification if he was punished. Punishment could be a chat restriction.

Any sorts of negativity are against the policy of League of Legends, regardless of any situation. When reported, you'll get flagged. If you do it consistently, you'll get a penalty. There are 4 tiers.

  • 10-game Chat Restriction
  • 25-game Chat Restriction
  • 14-day Ban
  • Permaban

The only time you can trigger a ban by chat is using something against zero-tolerance policy. Racial Slurs or homophobic slurs etc. But if you continue to insult them, regardless if they started it or not, or for whatever reason, you'll get flagged and you'll eventually get penalized to the point you'll eventually get banned.

You're not going to convince someone like that to stop being like that in one game. My favorite remedy - go the opposite direction. "Oh my gosh Jax, you clever fiend, I just love you so much". At first they'll try to turn it back on you to trigger you, but when it doesn't work the chat generally slows down.

Or they get way too into it and slip into your DMs. That's the danger with the move. You win some, you lose some.
