How to prevent the frustration from people going afk in ranked.

Hi Riot,

I've a suggestion on how to deal with the frustration of ranked games where somebody leaves the game / is afk until he gets afk flagged by the client. How about not punishing the other 4 people in that game by giving them -lp for the loss but instead make it loss prevented and put the -lp on the leaver (or some sort of increased -lp). Ofcourse one could say: "Hey this could be abused by duo/multi queue." To prevent that howerver there could be a) an exception that the rule doesnt apply at all for the case that some premade goes afk or b) just put the punishment on the premade as well which would have an even greater learning effect for these people. It doesn't help anyone to know that the person going afk will be punished because we lost lp anyway.

5 people have to gain LP, 5 people have to lose LP.

Aside from the fact that this can be easily abused, giving the losing team a pass isn't fair to the team that won, and pollutes the ranked ladder. Similarly, one person losing more LP is punishing a non-gameplay behavior by pushing them lower in rank. This is not fair to lower ranked people. Low rank is not a punishment.

Leavers need to be punished, but not at the expense of anyone else.

It doesn't matter. In the long run if you never AFK yourself, you will actually win even more games than you lose because of AFK'ers (remember this can happen to the other team too) so the system is actually working in your favor. Sucks in the moment, especially if you're ahead - but its not really that punishing and way to open to abuse if they try to start compensating players.

I think the best solution is implement a reporting penalty if it's deemed invalid. Create very specific guidelines that can be used as when to report someone. If you hit that report button and the person being reported doesn't actually meet the requirements, then the reporter gets the punishment. That would reduce the overall number of reports and would allow Riot to actually investigate the ones that do get submitted.

Not even Rito can determine 100% if a disconnection is from ragequitting or genuine irl emergency. Besides, LeaveBuster does not work off of reports so your suggestion is more pointless.

Why exactly would it be pointless? My goal here is to decrease the punishment for the team that loses because someone goes afk. If you dont agree with that i can only assume that you are one of those leavers.

because LeaveBuster does not need report to work. Whether someone is reported or not have no weight in triggering LB before LB is triggered long before anyone even able to click that report button so having some silly punishment for the reporter would be pointless.
