Third Party Bans - Starting to Get Accounts Back

After looking on the forums, it seems to be that people are starting to get their accounts back from the widespread third party bans that recently went out. I am in the same boat as many of you who experienced these bans, and I have posted in multiple threads on the forums, so it is relieving to see that some of these issues are being flushed out.

I just wanted to make a few statements/opinions about the recent ban wave:

  1. I completely understand and appreciate that Riot wants to make sure the information they disclose about investigations does not compromise their security, but one of the larger frustrations about this process is we all were given no detail on the evidence that Riot possessed. I believe this policy needs to change in some way to provide information that lead to a specific ban, otherwise it just feels like a silent hand taking your account away with no explanation.

  2. This shows Riot's automated ban system is not perfect. I would say the majority of players (including myself) appreciate the attempt to keep cheaters/scripters from interfering with everyone else's experience, but if the system is flawed, then maybe it shouldn't resort to a first offense perma-ban. This would at least give players time to contest the charges and discuss the issue with a support representative. Once again, one major issue players had with the ban wave was there was no warning - they woke up one day and their account was gone.

  3. There were numerous postings along the lines of "You all are scripting, you deserve the bans, quit complaining". While I am absolutely certain not everyone that was flagged is innocent, there are a large number of players that are. Everyone is critical of the victim until one day they are one. I would ask players to please refrain from these kind of posts and put yourself in our shoes - "How would you feel if this was you?". These posts do not help players already distraught by losing their accounts.

  4. I completely lost faith in Riot for a few days. I thought "this is one of the most unprofessional experiences I've had with a company before", and while I haven't seen an official Riot post on the issue, they are beginning to restore my confidence. It is comforting to know they are starting to un-ban people. They could have easily just swept this under the rug and potentially hurt a lot of players, but they obviously took the time to investigate the bans, and I really do appreciate their effort to make things right.

  5. While I am not going to comment on my specific ticket information and resolutions for my privacy and that of the support representative's privacy, I would urge players to be patient while they restore accounts, and refrain from demanding individual un-bans in the forums so we don't overwhelm postings on other topics. They obviously understand the issue now, I think we owe it to them to give them a chance to react.

Just my two cents, which is probably worth exactly two cents. I know everyone's situation is different, but I am relieved to see Riot reacting and attempting to correct any wrongdoing on their part. We all love League of Legends, many of us have met new friends playing the game while developing a strong, inherent hatred for small animals carrying bags of mushrooms. The majority of us would never do anything intentional to harm the integrity of the game we enjoy so much. Thank you Riot for hearing our concerns, and I hope to be back on the Rift soon to flaunt my Silver skills, and develop new long lasting memories of one of my favorite games of all time.

Not that I did it, but to be fair to point 3, until today, this was never the case. I've seen hundreds of people post that they're innocent only for Riot Trantrum or Lyte to come in and smite them, exposing just how toxic they were or how they cheated or account boosted. It's kinda hard to believe people on here after seeing countless people swear up and down they're innocent while being completely guilty.

After this incident though, people will have a reason to be more open I think. I hope so, at least.
