Meta is an illusion, it is merely a concept players get behind as a means of understanding how to play the game in a cookie cutter style (its only good if many people say its good) at a base level before beginning to actually develop how to ascertain the most efficient tactical advantage through variegated team compositions.

Off-meta is only off-meta until people notice it works consistently and start to copy it en masse with continued success.

Assuming off-meta is trolling is bad, but it's entirely okay to be disappointed by a teammate trying and failing something different. People just shouldn't automatically get the pitchforks and spam the reports.
