Does saying "N*****" mean automatic ban?

To answer the title: yes Some context for you all, I was playing Blitz and my adc was pretty bad so I decided if we're going to win I might as well focus on roaming and having map pressure. All was well till the Lucian fed up with 2v1ing (he was getting solo exp was up 10 cs and 2 lvls) for awhile deiced to tower dive the enemy bot lane. I then "/mute all" and proceeded to do me. The game was dragging on with team mates playing TDM instead of actually trying to win I vent my frustration in chat(everyone muted still), thinking no one can see it, I spam the word "%%%%%%s" (now I know this probably wasn't the best of things for me to do and I realize now how serious Riot babysits their players, but we all do weird and sometimes questionable things when you think no one is watching or listening) but immediately after the game I was banned.

My problem with the ban is two things;

  1. The mute system which the support team says that I can't see their text but they see mine, which I've never known ever to be the case(maybe it was changed and I never read about it in the patch notes)?. If they could see my text that would mean the "/mute all" is bugged or messed up.
  2. The context in which the text is in, it is not directed towards anyone. I know it is a derogatory term but when people slip through your "player reviewed" tribunal system telling me that "my mom should have swallowed." Or " I hope some homeless guys fucks your sister after she falls asleep." its hard to look at what I said and say "You know what? I was wrong for saying these things and I promise myself to never do this again."

Idc if I get unbanned I just wanna know peoples thoughts on this situation and the tribunal system as a whole.

No... The First Amendment doesn't work that way. Also, LoL is Riot's private property and they can enforce whatever rules they see fit. The First Amendment doesn't even apply here.

You have the right to say anything you want. But Riot retains the right to enforce their rules about whether you say it in their game.

Freedom of speech does not protect you from using hate speech and let along when you signed up for league you agree to abide by their TOS and that word is not allowed and shouldnt be... if that bothers you then uninstall find something else to play

Actually, no, in this case you are not protected under the First Amendment. Riot is a private organization, and the First Amendment applies specifically to the government and government institutions.

Quoting from Lata Nott, Executive Director of the Newseum Institute's First Amendment Center via CNN's article The First Amendment doesn't guarantee you the rights you think it does:

** You are banned from a social media platform:** This is not a First Amendment issue though plenty of people think it is. This scenario illustrates one of the biggest misconceptions people have about the First Amendment. Bottom line: It protects you from the government punishing or censoring or oppressing your speech. It doesn't apply to private organizations. "So if, say, Twitter decides to ban you, you'd be a bit out of luck," Nott says. "You can't make a First Amendment claim in court."

Your comment or post is deleted on an online forum: It's a private company, so it's not a First Amendment issue. There's that refrain again: Private companies, like social media sites, can do whatever they want. But regulating conversations and posts online is a delicate balance for social media giants like Facebook. You can see from these two examples, the First Amendment does not actually cover things said in a gaming platform that is owned by a private company. It would be different if the government had stepped in and tried to have you banned for saying something, but as it was Riot, the first amendment does not apply.

You still retain your first amendment rights. Freedom of Speech, but not Freedom *from Consequence of Speech." Shouting slurs in a movie theater can get you kicked out, and that's all legal. Typing slurs in League is similar -- they can kick you out.

Regardless of what the community's personal opinions on the word are, Riot is obviously not okay with the word because they hand out 14-day bans (if it was your first offense) for using that word. Also, The Tribunal no longer exists and hasn't existed for some time now. I highly doubt Riot will bring it back, mostly because it was a slow process and resulted in many players trolling or just using it to earn rewards from voting in it.

That is odd because The Tribunal hasn't been around for several seasons. Currently, the system that hands out punishments in the client is the Instant Feedback System.

As far as I am aware, the mute function has always only served to make it so that you do not see the chat of the players that you have muted, and has never made it so that they cannot see yours. It is in place as an added protection so that players may prevent themselves from seeing anything from another player that happens to slip through the chat filter or if that other player has been engaging in any sort of harassing behavior.

And unfortunately, while I can understand that the context of the usage in this case may not have been directed at anyone, Riot does have a zero-tolerance policy towards using hate speech. They do not condone its use in any form, whether it is directed at another player or simply typed randomly to seemingly no one. The vast majority of reports are handled by the Instant Feedback System, not players/Riot staff, and while it does pick up many phrases, it can take a little bit for the system to learn new ones that the community finds inappropriate.

I was honestly unaware of the muting function in this game, or it has changed I honestly thought muting meant both players could not receive or send messages to eachother. A note about the system in place I feel there should be someone that actually reviews the bans instead of letting a system handle it, there was an interesting video on youtube where a guy creates a program to try and replicate the comment section and after many runs and learning sessions it still cant pick up on many things a human could.

just did, not sure if the "sexy judge courtroom" counts, it is the "roleplaying" Champaign room in the more popular strip club where I live. They seemed more confused than they were mad.

Tell ya what. If you take such a dismissive attitude about it then maybe you should walk up to a group of people that are a different race from you, throw out a few slurs at them or speak to them as you do on the internet and report back to us with what happened. Granted, it's possible you won't be able to report back...

The point is why do you think it's appropriate to use racial slurs on the internet? What makes that okay for you?

update I wasn't using this thread on whether the word is ok to say or not, but more the state of the banning system in general as well as contextual speech inside the game. Where the system picks up the use of the word N***** and bans but saying something like squinty eyed Asian passes through with flying colors. Most of the comment I've made are sarcastic and should be read in a joking manner, apologize if the sarcasm wasn't obvious enough i know read it through text can be almost impossible.
