How do you feel about Riot being ban happy ?

All I see every single day is a new player banned. I mean I honestly find it hilarious since I don't care about what people say in the chat box since I'm not a huge infant, but I can easily jump along the bandwagon when someone gets mad that they're 0/11 and the enemy team calls them out on it. So I'm wondering why Riot Games' has only one solution: ban ban ban. They've even stopped giving chat restrictions and just throw out 14 day bans even though they have 7 day bans. I even heard they don't have the "you are the .04%" in their ban notifications anymore because it isn't true. Even Blizzard squareness their players lol. But Riot Games? They'll just ban anybody for not fitting their utopian ideals and personal opinions (from all the chat logs and stuff I read all the time there seems to have been no problems at all except back and forths of equally faulty players, but only one side prevails it seems. On top of that feeders and trolls always seem to be in many of players' games regardless of how many times you report them. Riot has chosen complete control over their playerbase's thoughts and words but no solutions. Not a single solution, you can't even disable your chatbox or remove it from the screen. On top of that they don't strictly enforce their censorship or /mute functions that can prove a solution for any "offended" player. So what does the "toxic" community think about all this?[sg-ahri-2]

Calling people f"ggots or n"ggers, asking everyone to report & open mid are not "personal opinions". It's just being a straight-up jerk.

Do you have any official proof of this, like a quote from a Rioter? If you do, I would love to see it because it would be news to me.

Also, Riot doesn't do 7 day bans anymore, and haven't done so for quite some time. Ever since the IFS was implemented, the only temporary suspension there is is a 14 day one.

On top of that they don't strictly enforce their censorship or /mute functions that can prove a solution for any "offended" player.

The existence of the mute button is not an excuse for you to act like a jerk. As The Djinn likes to say, the mute button serves as a shield. I have it so that I can protect myself from an attack if needed, but just because I have it doesn't make it acceptable for you to attack me in the first place.

  1. Verbal/type toxicity is easier for the system to detect and only gives straight to a 14 day for extreme cases (hate speech/ encouraging self harm)

  2. Gameplay negativity is harder because players confuse the program for it. Since some people report others for int feeding or trolling when they had a bad game, it really messes with the algorithm.

  3. The player is responsible for muting their chat if they wish. Usually unless you just mute at the start, you have no way of knowing if you need to mute someone until after they already said something.

  4. Adding an extra step of 7 day ban won't help either.

Between the complete lack of human interaction from report to ban, harsh punishments for minor offences and lack of transparrency when it comes to the hidden dictionary of words they automatically ban you for, it's disgusting.

They should learn from CSGO's ban system, where only cheaters are permabanned.

And from GTA 5's "bad sport" queue, where griefers and leavers are matched with other griefers and leavers.

And they should stop trying to protect children's feelings. Becuase they shouldn't encourage children to play a game with gambling in it anyway. (hextech chests)

I do not mind an open, unfiltered chat in the slightest. The more liberal people can be with their choice of words, the quicker problems can get resolved. Or at least they will vent frustrations out with words, not with griefing or on their physical surroundings.

The tribunal was a horrible system in my opinion, it went through 3 phases in the time that I used it:

  • phase 1: players got lp for their tribunal cases and people used it commonly when they had some time for the lp and to help the comunnity. This was a pretty good time.
  • phase 2: players discover you get more lp by just not reading the cases and voting yes on everything. Threatening to report became very efficient because it actually got results when enough players reported you.
  • phase 3: the lp rewards got removed, only the holiest of players still used it and voted punish if somebody said as much as shit.

Then riot removed the tribunal because it was not working and we went into the stacked report era:

  • reports didn't get processed at all, but every now and then when somebody was reported a thousand times they might just look at it.

In the meantimes they tried some things tho:

They started an experiment where they gave permabanned players a second chance where they could not use the chat, they resorted to inting instead so they dropped that idea.

They started to implement a new report system with chatbans, all it did was make people brag about the literal thousands of chatbans they had.

Then they settled on the current system, which is still flawed, but is significantly better then every other system I have seen so far:

The current system has:

  • So far not had that many situations where the player wasn't at least flaming his ass of or being toxic.
  • Made the people threatening to report you seem laughable.

But I admit it has it's flaws too:

  • the feederbuster feels completely worthless from time to time, only catching extreme situations.
  • it doesn't get sarcasm at all so you could have situations where a sarcastic answer or 4 could get you a ban
  • I don't feel that it really does anything to combat toxicity(like all the other systems before it), I feel honor works better in that sense.

As for your other statement about just muting the bastard, I agree that that works for me, but it is still frustrating to see 3 players on my team not playing because they are discussing bs instead of playing, that is why I report them.

So overall that is why I said no to your poll, I also upvoted your post because I am curious to the general opinion on this.

I honestly think they jump too fast to perma think it should be chat bans then 7-14-30-perma but with the amount of players tribunal just can't work anymore it would take forever for it to be accomplished.
