who cares about those downvotes, they mean the same thing as your e-pen, aka nothing.
I get your point and it's a pretty valid one, but a lot of communities similar to the boards style here (reddit) find complaining about downvotes to be distasteful. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the OP to post a topic that people find interesting enough to discuss. If they don't find your content interesting, they're less likely to leave a comment.

Alternatively, I can just downvote the thread, and upvote the post, particularly when a comment of mine would not add anything meaningful to the conversation. It's better for everyone that way.
