Honor System Improvement Ideas

Hi,

I started playing League of Legends since around the March of 2016 and since then a lot of changes were made to the client, one of them being the Honor System.

When the new Honor System was introduced, it was told that it was going to be more rewarding for the honorable players and encourage more people to be less toxic in games. For those that don't know about the system, players can climb up the honor level by receiving honors from their team mates at the end of the game. While it did do its job, I feel like it came with some problems. When your account becomes suspended or chat-banned, the honor level drops to 0 and becomes locked at 0 for a while until you start showing more positive behavior.

Not so long ago, Riot made it more easier for the dishonorable players to climb back in levels. However, because the climb mostly depends on your team mate, I feel like it's still challenging for people to climb back up.

From what I experience, when a group of friends play together, they tend to honor each other no matter how well or bad they played and rarely do they honor the randoms in their team. Even I am guilty of doing this with my friends.

I main support and I don't play ranked unless I have a friend to go bot with because I don't trust random adc players so when my friend isn't available, I usually run solo normal drafts. Often times, I get teamed with 4 people pre-made that almost always flames me for "playing alone" or "not having any friends" (i.e.) whenever I make a mistake. And of course, they honor each other even when I "carry" the game and am friendly to others.

This brings me to another point. When my friend and I duo rank, my team mostly honors my friend who is getting kills while I only get one honor from him even when I'm setting up all the kills and keeping my team mates alive.

I dipped down from honor level 4 to honor level 0 once last early December and was unable to climb out of it for 6+ month even when I haven't been punished until recently which really discourages me from playing nice many times. On top that, with events like Clash being available only for Honor level 2 (or 3? I don't remember) and above, it's little frustrating.

While I do think that this new honor system is better than the last one, I still feel like there could be a lot of possible improvements. (i.e.) Playing without getting any reports for certain amount of games like 10, brings up the honor level by at least one check point.

However, because the climb mostly depends on your team mate.

This is kind of a true and not so true at the same time. If you show neutral-positive behavior in your games, you'll still climb in honors.

Besides, there's a healthy chunk of population honor the ones that leave an impression. It doesn't mean you have to carry, you can leave impression via showing positive behavior.

Btw, premade honors are useless. Riot purposely programmed the system that way to prevent premade abuse.

I dipped down from honor level 4 to honor level 0 once last early December and was unable to climb out of it for 6+ month even when I haven't been punished since.

Just because you having been punished, doesn't necessarily mean your behavior is neutral-positiive. It is possible to have minor toxicity progressing towards punishment while not getting punished.

That's kind of how the system works right now, just the spread is a lot more than 10 games. 100 games will be a better reflection.

**Disclaimer: The information I say in this post is speculation based on my personal experiences in this matter and may or may not reflect how the system really works. **

You should be far less concerned about the number of honors you get and more concerned about the number of games you play AND the number of valid reports that are reported against you. Just because you weren't punished doesn't mean that some reports may be valid as from my understanding and this could be wrong, is that if you are reported correctly for something toxic that is very minor, it can silently halt your honor progression.

So if i am understanding you correctly and you say you been stuck at honor level 0 or 1 or 2 for 6+months? then I think you are either not playing enough games and / or you are still being just toxic enough to halt your honor but not toxic enough to invoke the next level of punishment.

If you want to gain honor levels back I would suggest not typing a single word in any game unless it is a instruction or suggestion that can be presented in a manor that is no way can be seen as toxic OR argumentative.

It isn't because you aren't getting enough honors from your team mates cause from my experience, getting the honors from team mates i don't think haves nearly the impact that people think it doses and the bonus if everyone honors someone is even less. I am a split pusher and my play style in the game tends to confuse/anger my team because most people for some reason still don't understand what it is i do. as such I don't really get many honors nor do i care to get honors, I'm here to try to destroy the other teams nexus. and in S7 I reached honor level 5 about 2 weeks after I started noticing other people with the L-5 honor flare.

bottom line for gaining it back, play games and don't type unless it is important information for the team AND it can be said in a non-toxic and non-argumentative way.
