Why do we not have a fair dodge system? Ideas for implementing a dodge system?

So the objective of this is to bring light to an unfair and honestly ignored part of league queue. I also want to get a broader opinion on dodging as I know I may be missing the bigger picture of things.

So as many of you know when you solo queue or even duo+ queue you occasionally run into trolls. Several people are just upset from their last game, not getting their role, a friend unexpectedly inviting you, etc., etc. I have had several of these in the last month. Nothing really debilitating but it is enough that I started to feel as thought Riot really doesn't care about this issue. This system or lack of system punishes you by taking away your hard earned LP and giving you a time ban. All for dodging an unsavory game that springs up in champ select or a variety of other valid reasons.

There must be a better way. One idea i had off the top of my head was to allow three (give or take) unpunished dodges per day. I say three because I usually only get one or two of these toxic champ selects/ situations a day.

I'm sure there are several other ideas out there. I am also sure that my idea may be mediocre at best. I would like to know what you think. Am i missing a bigger picture? Do you think Riots current system is fair, or could be made better? Tell me about a toxic champ select you have experienced.

Thanks for listening! GL HF

Unfortunately letting people dodge whenever they want would be bad for the game. they would just dodge whenever they see someone on the enemy team pick a champ they don't want to fight against which would then also make ban phase meaningless since you can just dodge whenever for whatever.

I do understand that trolls ruin the game as well, and they suck, but letting people dodge when they want would break the game more than just random trolls do. Just try to do the best you can in-game and if they exhibit negative behavior during the game, report them and help contribute to reducing the toxic population. Sadly the system is not perfect and we can only use the tools available to help keep it clean for ourselves and other players as best we can.

Maybe they can have something similar to ARAM rerolls where the reroll is shared between premades.

But I really don't want a bunch of premades or people dodging for free cos they just didn't like the comp or some off-meta pick.

The main issues are queue times and unfair advantages.

Queue times would increase due to people consistently dodging with their freebie passes. While I don't mind 1-2 minute queues, I can image them to grow almost to 10 minutes if you're stuck in groups constantly dodging. Remember, there are millions of players in this game across different servers. Giving someone 1-3 free dodges to cancel a game would ruin the queue times and make things miserable for the other 9 players.

Other issue is unfair advantages to dodging. "Someone is playing a champ I hate? dodge" or "The enemy took the champ I wanted to play? Dodge". They seem small, but being able to avoid matches just because of X reasons is terrible. This would prevent anyone from playing Off-meta champs, having fun, or just playing a champion they want in general. Think about the flavor of the month champions that happen. Everyone wants to play them, but if people were allowed to dodge for free it would kill the game because someone else wants that specific champion.

I get the reasons why you want to suggest this, but there are so many cons compared to pros for this particular issue. We already get a "minor" punishment when dodging if you don't do it habitually, so it's not really an issue. It only becomes an issue when you repeatedly dodge games.

3 seems a bit too much, I think 1 would be fair but that is 'almost' what we have now by only losing 3 LP and having a 6 minute timer. 3 LP isn't really much and 6 minutes isn't that big of a deal. Would be nice if we had a freebie but if we did it would probably lead to a lot more dodges.

Usually what I do is if I have to dodge then I switch accounts for the day to avoid the bigger penalities.

3 per day would just be way too many. They have reduced dodge penalties before and it just made it take forever to get a game. Dodges left and right. Every little thing. Ban a champ someone didn't think needed to be banned, dodge. Pick a champ that isn't top 3 in its role, dodge. guy has w/e thing in his match history, dodge. etc etc. You would get multiple dodges every game you played. Maybe it could be like 1 a month or something.

It does suck when you have to dodge a true troll, but it is simply worth it. You were going to lose that game anyway. So the LP loss and the time wait are both less than you would have lost anyway. So it is essentially a necessary evil.

I wouldn't mind seeing dodges tracked beyond each day like other punishments though. Then the guy who dodges a troll once in a while can be treated differently than the guy who dodges every little perceived disadvantage.

3 a day?!? Jesus. We'd never play again
