Possible Yasuo Passive Shield Bug

I had a game where Yasuo tower dove me. I was playing Ekko, when I hit him once with my E. He had his passive shield up so I triggered it. He was executed instead of giving me a kill. (I was low with no mana and by me second turrent) I'm 100% sure I hit him (with my E only, no aa's), even Yasuo noted that I hit him.

Is it supposed to be an execute? Is his shield supposed to be have a negate effect where no hit is registered?

To be clear:

  1. Yasuo dives
  2. Ekko is low health and low mana
  3. Ekko hits E (only E (which if i'm not mistaken is considered an aa), no additional aa's), and tries to run away but dies
  4. Ekko's E procs Yasuo's shield/ passive.
  5. Yasuo dies due to tower dive. (He dies shortly after hitting my E so it should have been a kill, not an execute)

Shield definition comes into question. Is it a shield or an ability/ aa negation?

Is hitting a shield the same as not taking damage? Does barrier act the same way?

You have to damage his health or apply some form of CC or debuff for it to count as participation.

Remember that Yasuo's passive shield is not triggered by turret shots. You triggering his shield did not in any way speed up or assist his death. In fact, it actually slightly increased his chances of survival because the turret had to do a bit of damage to his shield once you triggered it.
