Why does a sense of self-loathing seem to hang over the crown of the LoL community?
I just wondered about this today, as I was reading through Summonerscode.com - a funny web site in some instances, btw. Helped me to lighten up in chat.

I just think it is kind of interesting, and worth a discussion - since how the broad image that the community holds of itself has got to influence how the players all interact together, right?
I'm not really sure how to open up a discussion about it. But I think it's strange and peculiar, how folks who use the Internet seem to be hanging onto this persistent assumption that the Internet only attracts asocial loners who cannot get a girlfriend / boyfriend but whose only hope for sexual gratification is masturbation to Internet pornography.
And yes, before the "chill out" crowd emerges, I recognise that the 2 people in that chat were probably not taking it in too personally. But it is peculiar to me how this kind of assumption is still so persistent. And how we think about ourselves has got a gigantic influence on how we conduct ourselves, so it's worthy of discussion if you ask me.
Maybe I could start a poll here ... something to demonstrate that this assumption is old and outdated, and in reality actually we are a community mainly made up of normal people with a wide variety of occupations, life purposes, marital statuses, etc. etc.?
Out of over 1 million players, countless must have girlfriends, steady employment and/or any other kind of meaningful work, a rewarding sex-life, and be all-around decent folks. So where does this assumption in the inherent asocial depravity of every Internet user come from?
Did the few who really are miserably depraved manage to bitterly insult many, and then this has turned into a whole overhanging fad and community assumption (community standard of interpersonal relations)? ... or, are we possibly all collectively ashamed because Internet pornography has become degenerated so excessively?
