The most unfair thing that has happaned to me in this game. (LeaverBuster)

I was in my final promo game lobby when suddenly my power cut off for a second and shut off my PC.

While the damn thing booted again and I logged into the game, my team had already remade the game, and I was left facing this screen.

Because of this: I lost promos, lost extra 20lp, got reported and got busted by leave buster. 3 hours later I played again, the power went out again mid game, few minutes later it came back, I got back into the game, we won the game, and then I got placed in low priority by leave buster for 5 games. I haven't gone afk for over a year, but I got punished for something I had no control over. How is this fair?

Before you say "Riot can't determine if the disconnect was intentional or not" let me list few things they can start with to make the system more accurate.

  • They can start with analyzing if the player logged out through the menu, of if the game was shut off.
  • They can analyze the chat and determine if the player who left was toxic or not (if he was then it's obvious that the player rage quit).
  • They can analyze if the player reconnected or not.
  • They can analyze if the team suffered a loss because of the afk or not.
  • They can analyze the history of the afk player and know if he's known for rage quitting.
  • They can give out a warning after disconnecting twice (since it's possible to unintentionally disconnect twice) instead of blindly punishing you right away.

The system they have now is atrocious, as shown in the example above, players are raging in chat asking everyone to report you even when the game is remade and the only thing they lost is 3 minutes of their time (while I lost 20lp).

But I feel like I'm wasting my breath, they will never put an effort in improving the system, simply because people don't care. I made this post on Reddit and the only feedback I got was from sheep saying "It's your fault, I don't care about the reason why you disconnected". This type of mindset is the reason we can't progress. This is my last attempt in making my concerns heard since I have a slight hope that there are still people who care and understand.

It doesn't matter. Even if they could, they shouldn't.

The leaver buster doesn't punish you if you leave one game, since everyone can have an emergency or just bad luck. However, if it happens more often, then you should fix your problems before you continue playing. Playing with a broken computer, a horrible connection etc. is not an excuse for leaving. If you know that you have problems, fix them before you continue playing. If you don't, you deserve your punishment. Playing when you have problems with your system is just as intentional as rage quitting.

As someone who cares and understands, I still don't see too much cause for concern. I also don't know exactly what you mean by "low priority for 5 games." Longer queue times? Probation? Depending on what it is exactly, doesn't sound too bad to me.

Now, I've only DC'D long enough since remake existed to enter the game RIGHT before it ended. So although they all probably reported me, I wasn't hit by leaverbuster (I don't think). If that was truly your first cause for report or AFK flag in a year's time, while it is a shame, you were only punished via LP until you disconnected a 2nd time. Keep in mind the main feature of the Remake is that the dc loses LP and no one else does. First or 50th attempt seems irrelevant there.

Although you had no control over it, the 5 game thing for your 2nd dc doesn't sound too bad. Now if you end up banned or something (even temporarily) after a 3rd DC, then it'd be an issue that may be grounds for Riot Support contact, especially since it might take you off eligibility for end of season rewards or something.

Let it be known that I do agree with what you're saying, and if they can differentiate between logging out and dc'ing then I think that's a great logical next step. While there is no announcement, I have faith that if such a thing can be implemented, they will do so eventually. But it's not exactly a priority issue. Situations like this are pretty rare in the grand scheme of things (you haven't dc'd in a year) and while it isn't your fault the power goes out, it's not Riot's responsibility either, and frankly your teammates don't care. A DC is a DC. It still cost the game from being played and/or won. The punishment seems fitting, just how it works in the online environment.

Riot doesn't care why you disconnected. And they shouldn't. Anything that can be detected as a "legitimate" disconnect can be faked by a truly dedicated person. Not to mention what would be endless debates about "legitimate" reasons. Not worth the effort.

Just sit it out. 5 minutes wait time for 5 games isn't that bad. I've done it, so have a lot of other people. Just be aware that you are still being tracked by LeaverBuster and can have escalated wait times (10 minutes, 20 minutes) for further disconnects.
