So I was in a game, and I was using vulgar language, as I do, but it wasnt really directed to anyone in a malevolent way. And while riot doesn't believe in free speech at all, I think being able to speak freely in a joking manner should at least be taken a bit more lightly.

So I was getting into it with this akali player, he was fucking with me, but in the end i was just messing with him back, and we gave each other some honor in the post game lobby, but apparently others couldn't handle the mean words and i got reported and got a chat restriction.

Just saying my dudes, can we tone down the nazi moderation a little bit? I know riot and most of the players are liberal and want a safe space in their game, but the freedom of expression that is me, can't help it.

you aren't punished just for that, game 1 and 2 were part of your punishment as well.

That's the thing about text: it makes it hard to tell if someone is joking or not without the person stating so in the first place. Regardless of what you think about it or call it, the behavior you displayed in your chat log is unacceptable by both community and Riot standards and led to your punishment. Riot has a zero tolerance policy for hate speech and vulgar language and cases containing them can be escalated to a 2-week or permaban status without any prior chat restrictions on the account.

Next time if you want to use language like that then do it with a full pre-made group of like-minded friends who you know are completely okay with it and who won't report you for it either.

P.S. Even if freedom of speech applied here it still wouldn't protect you from the consequences of your speech, so there's that at least.

Face it, the other 8 players in the game weren't interested in listening to your sophomoric banter. The problem in my mind with vulgarity isn't that it's offensive so much as it's lazy and boring (though if other people are offended, that's a problem too). Next time write something remotely entertaining and maybe you won't get reported.

Little kids also play this game, it isn't rated M. Just because you like cursing doesn't mean everyone else does. Start cursing in a restaurant and you'll likely be kicked out, or asked to stop.

Hate speech isnt tolerated. It has nothing to do with free speech. Government wont persecute you for what u said here but private companies like Riot dont have to deal with you. Playing LoL is privilege, not a right

Riot has a 0 tolerance policy for hate speech, you'd do well to remember that. I get that you might not have meant what you said but other people don't know that so it's safest to just be cool. And honestly if you told one of my teammates to kill themselves I'd report you for that alone.

Freedom of expression doesn't mean you get to call people assholes and tell them to kill themselves, that's called being rude. For example, I've never had a problem expressing myself and I've never gotten any sort of punishment from RIOT. I think i express myself freely just like you, except I'm nice to my teammates :)

Are you advocating that the community en-mass should change into a pile of trolls? It's the community that sets the standards. I think you're going to have a hard sell convincing the player-base that they must put up with harassment while they are playing a video game.

The title of your post was related to the behavior systems being broken. How would you suggest they be changed?

As expected, this forum is filled with nothing but Riot Games yes-men who can't think logically.

It's actually the opposite. Our behavior systems and norms and created/informed by the community. We simply enforce what the playerbase has taught our systems. For example, in Korea 'your mom' jokes are extremely bad, where in the U.S. it's just a joke. So these people on the forums are sharing THEIR opinions. They are not spouting off a stance Riot has created.

Quoted by Riot Tantram. The majority of players disagree with your opinion; and it's really not okay the way you were acting. Remember, being negative and placing hate speech in the chat isn't tolerated by not only Riot, but the community in which you are in.

BTW, freedom is speech is the immunity to GOVERNMENT censorship, Riot Games is a privately operated company

Freedom of speech means you have the freedom to express what you want, but not that people are obliged to give you for a platform.

Also that chat log was cringey as fuck.
