Does reporting even do anything?

It seems like reporting does nothing. I am constantly getting feeders, and toxic players, and people who leave games. Almost every game I get people who just sit and cuss everyone out the whole game. I got a game today where I had a Varus go mid and feed a Yasuo, and he was sitting and cussing me and my duo partner out because we were "doing bad" even though we were doing fine until we kept getting camped by the enemy team jungler. Then at the end of the game he lied and told everyone to report us because we "told him to kill himself" even though nobody said anything even relatively close to that. I get junglers who don't gank, top laners who just stay top all game, supports who take ignite and steal kills on purpose. It's literally one of the most toxic communities that I've ever played with.

it does, just that the system's visibility is low so it makes you think that nothing happened cos they don't tell you when someone is punished (unless the game you reported them in was the one that punished them).

If you look at the "New" section of the very board you're posting on, you'll see some players complaining about their ban. So obviously reporting does do something.

I guess the actual question is does it even matter? Because people don't seem to care about getting reported. I've had people tell me to report them because they think it's not going to do anything. The sad thing is that even when people do get reported it doesn't seem like it has any effect, considering the fact there's so many people that still troll.

there's many aspects to that.

If you wanted to report me for intentional feeding, sure go ahead and report me. I know I may be playing bad but far from intentional feeding.

If you wanted to report me for toxicity for giving a constructive advice, sure go ahead as well, false reports get thrown out.

If you want to report me for telling you that "asking for reports is considered harrassment, I'll report you instead", then go ahead. I'm just telling you how the system works and if you are offended by that, tough luck.

So there are alot of false reports going on. But understand that because the visibility of the system is low, so many people don't think reporting works, which at the end makes them come out with a bold statement saying "report me, its not going to do anything".

It also has something to do with toxicity actually being at an all time low, and it requires alot more games before someone gets punished. Which goes back to the point of people not thinking the system is working.

The good thing about all of this is that Riot acknowledges that the visibility is low and will probably come out with new behavioral features after the new client is running at a stable condition, so .. past beta, which may be ... who knows.

Yes it does. but if your expecting an immediate ban, then your missing th point. Reporting someone takes time, one report from one game is reviewed and cataloged onto the players history. If the player gets too many or is reported too often in a short amount of time, He is given a warning. if they continue, another warning, chat bans or suspensions. AFTER THAT, then we can talk about PERMA BANS.

TL;DR Does reporting even do anything? Yes.

I just wish I didn't have to report like one person or more per game. I'm not saying that everyone is rude and stuff, but I sure do meet more toxic players than I do nice people who are willing to be friendly.

You never have to report. It is pretty tempting though. I am probably the only person you will ever meet that tells you not to report. Even I report people. Just goes to show how hard it is.

Just devils advocate: would you want to be friends with someone who reported you?

I don't want to feel like I have to report people is I guess what I meant. Why wouldn't you want to report someone who is intentionally feeding? Or telling you to kill yourself? I was playing with my boyfriend, and we always duo queue together. And I was playing mid and they had a jungler who was having a pretty bad game. At the end of the game, he told everyone that one of their teammates was telling him to kill himself. And even in the chat he just kept putting "kys" like a hundred times. I had to add the person who was jungling and tell him to not worry about it because he has a pretty hard life, so getting trolled on a game was making his stress worse. We're friends now. I know that it's the internet and that people shouldn't take stuff so seriously sometimes, but there also shouldn't be people who just sit there and tell people to kill themselves. Or say that they "fucked your mom" and stupid crap like that. I feel like I have to report people all of the time just to try to make the community a better place. There are so many toxic people that it makes the game so irritating to play, especially when it's in basically every game. I love this game, and I want to continue playing because I think that it's great. But, there are just too many people in this community that would rather sit and cuss people out, threaten them, harass them, than try to play and have a good time. You could say that I can just mute them, but I don't like doing that. Especially when it doesn't matter because at the end of the game you have to see them talking garbage at post-game chat. And the spam pings, mute doesn't get rid of that either, and people do that all of the time. Especially if they're trolling. Also, I have reported people who are my friends before. Just for the simple fact that even if they're my friend, it doesn't matter if they're throwing the game, feeding, harassing someone. I hold the standards for everyone.

nope. punishment is all done by a computer program. the report button is a placebo to make the players feel better.

It might be done by a computer program, I have no idea. I know that reporting does do stuff, SOMETIMES, but it doesn't seem like it does enough. If a person sits and throws games, harasses, feeds, leaves games, etc all week, and they don't get a "warning" until a week later, does it really matter? Because they've been ruining games all week, they got to have their fun.

how do you know reporting does something? because they give you that little automated feedback message?

maybe that is just when the system catches someone it was already going to punish anyway and it wants to give a pat on the head to the people who recently reported him. even though they did nothing and it was all going to happen anyway.

I know because my boyfriend told me that a long time ago he got a chat restriction for defending himself because everyone on the team was bullying him and at the end someone reported him (probably the person that was harassing him). And I was also looking at the boards and there's people who have complained about being banned and having restrictions. But why would you think that they would punish someone without doing something? Do you think they randomly target people to punish them or something? I highly doubt that would happen, they would most likely lose out on customers and player base.

he said some of the keywords the program is looking for that are often said by toxic players. did you know the most often word said by toxics is "report"?

that is one of the keywords. if you say "report" a lot, "feed", "afk", "im done", these kinds of things you are in trouble. if you quote some of the things the toxic players said you can be in trouble.

the system doesnt know intentions or circumstances. it just knows your boyfriend said some of the words it hates.
