Player names and the increase of toxicity.

Lately I've noticed an increase in player names that are extremely inappropriate. I let the players know and usually they just say "fuck off", they seem to be the worst of the worst of toxic players. They also usually say that tribunal wont make them change their names. I've reported them but I'm starting to believe that maybe tribunal ISN'T making them change them. One in particular this last game, players name was " <Removed By Moderation> ". He said he's been reported before, tribunal is a joke, and they haven't made him change it. I reported it but I am making this post to make sure something is done about people that make names like this. Also I've noticed a huge increase in players telling other players to kill themselves. This should be treated the same way a racist remark is. It is absolutely uncalled for. If you can be held legally liable for telling someone to go kill themselves on a social media site, and they do, there is no reason someone should not be held accountable in this game. Suicide is nothing to joke about and it gets thrown around like it is nothing. I have reported these players before but again, I don't see any reports back saying a player was punished, I don't even know if they let players know they punished someone anymore. This is a serious issue though that needs to be dealt with harshly. I'd hate to think a player actually would kill themselves because of being told in the game, but the consequences of one players actions could be devastating, not only for a family, but also it seems Riot should be held accountable for letting these actions happen in games time and time again. Please look into this and hand out the harsh punishments deserved to make players stop doing this. Please make the player " <Removed By Moderation> " change his name so these players know these type of things wont be tolerated, and revive my faith in tribunal that someone is actually still monitoring and making sure these things aren't continuing.

Hey, I've edited the other player's name out of your post. We have rules against naming and shaming here, regardless if the person named is guilty of doing something wrong or not. Be sure to omit other players names from posts like these.

According to Riot's Code of Conduct, the name doesn't appear to be something that would be allowed. If you've reported it through the in-game system, there's nothing more you need to do. Not receiving feedback doesn't mean that action hasn't been taken against the player you've reported.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this moderator action, please visit us in the Moderation Discord Server. If you'd like to leave us feedback on our moderation or the boards in general, please make a thread in the "Discuss The Boards" sub-board.

You'll want to omit the player's screenname, as Naming and Shaming is against the Boards Universal Rules.

Naming and Shaming

Moderators will look for the following:

  • Personal attacks
  • Posts that accuse others of causing a negative in-game experience
  • Posts targeted at witch-hunting / naming and shaming
  • Posts accusing others of malicious activity
  • Posts that accuse others of cheating or using illegal services
  • Posts accusing others of trolling on the Boards

I've bolded the line that absolutely applies, and italicized the line that I believe also applies.

Beyond that, though, their screenname really isn't inappropriate. I'd say it's fairly close to it, but, it doesn't warrant a name change. Either way, if you feel that a player's screenname violates the rules, report them post-game, use the Details section of the report to explain why it's inappropriate, and let Riot handle it. Going onto the boards and shaming them publicly isn't going to do you any good.

EDIT 2: Struckthrough my opinion on the player's screenname, it's subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt - it is very much advisable to listen to Final Spark Lux's statements as they are much more knowledgeable and objective about the rules than myself. Still - reporting what you feel is in violation of the rules is good practice.

EDIT: Also, hate to break it to you, but, you're four years behind in regards to the punishment system. The Tribunal is gone - iceboxed indefinitely. It's been replaced with the Instant Feedback System (IFS), an automated punishment system.

Hey Thomas! i just read your message and i completely agree with you. i have seen many inappropriate names as well especially in past 3 months and read at least 3 times kys and similar things like that in the same time frame. The best you can do right now is just clear your mind :) and stay/think positive. Ignore this people, don't waste your time and focus on chatting back to those people, focus on game-play! and report everything what is necessary like wrong names or this harassment, stay cool and trust in tribunal!. They collect this data/reports on specific players and will eventually remove them/penalize, sooner or later. I'm sure system is working as intended so no worries here :)) be happy. If you gonna have to deal with this hateful people again, players who chat this bad stuff, there is another great way to report this problem... record game or print screen/take picture, drop in paint, save as. Log into support riot, create ticket, and drop picture there. I'm sure someone from Riot will be more then happy to assist you with any issues. I would use this second method in extreme situations where chat is really hateful, otherwise regular report is just fine. Stay cool and be happy.

Move along, nothing to see here. The 20 whatever challenge said perma ban as the only solution. People will not be angry an account got perma banned over something trivial. Said people DO NOT make/buy alt accounts to vent on players, thus creating an actual troll/flamer/inter or whatever.

That player is very wrong. There is no more Tribunal. If you find an offensive name, report it. If you forget, you can always send in a ticket through the support system (best to link to match history with that player in it). I have done both of these before, and both have resulted in the inflammatory name being forcibly changed.
