a way to stop smurfing for good

my proposition is for riot to rank lock peoples ip addresses, meaning if they are ranked on one account and they create a new one they will be put into the same skill matches with players similar to their rank. it honestly could work, just think about it. if someone is, lets say diamond on their main account and then they create a new one, the ip address system would put them in matches with players near that rank. just think if they can indefinitely ban someone through there ip, then they can indefinitely ''rank lock'' someone through ip.

I don't know guys its just a suggestion. smurfs in the comments will say it wont work

The problem is that some people have dynamic ip adresses and it's actually not hard to get a new IP in fact some people's routers can do it just by restarting the dang thing. Also you have VPNs which put a kink in that aswell.

Just as an fyi I fucking hate smurfs but going off an IP address is not the right solution because it has so many loopholes.

internet cafe college dorm multiple unique players in the same household with the same IP VPN dynamic IP recycled IP (someone else in another house could get your old IP from the same ISP and get screwed) traveling

It takes like 3 mins to change your ip, doesn't it?

well, many people dont want to face it but the truth is riots "new" ranked system made smurfs in low elo more likely. back then smurfs just went 10:0 in their first 10 placement games and usually got placed in gold 1 or around that. not they can go 10:0 and still end up in silver 3 or 4. which is the elo where the most players are.

A better idea might be to use hardware ID and location as trackers. accounts accessed from the same device and location are roughly bound together if the account exhibits similarities (same champs/main role played, flash on f or d etc.)

Obviously this won't work for net cafes or dynamic ips but those can be sorted through a bit of checks (frequency and number of unique accounts logging in to determine if this is a public computer and frequency of an account logging in on the same device for dynamic ip people)

This isn't meant to 100% foolproof smurfing but it is better then what riot is currently doing. i.e nothing.
