So, where to start, well, in this previous game I was playing with my youngest brother, attempting to teach him how to play. He said he wanted to play against real people and not bots anymore. I was hesitant, because I know how people are online, and with him just starting to play this game, it could ruin it for him. Well, my suspicions were correct, and as soon as the enemy team noticed he was not very familiar with this game, they began to camp him, insult him, calling him bad, the whole roundabout. Now, this is what I expected, but why? Why should I expect other people to be assholes? Why is that something I should expect. The enemy was being a total ass to him. Quite literally. They were calling him bad, taunting him, basically TRYING to get him to quit the game. Why are there assholes like that out there? I let them know, "Hey, he is new to the game, would you mind taking it easy on him?" What is the first thing they do? Gank him 4 times, then they proceeded to take their whole team top lane. This game has turned into a horrible concept of who can we piss off today? When I first started playing, people helped you learn the game. People would let you lane at your own pace. Now a days? You are lucky if you do not get a teammate that tells you that you should go kill yourself because you have not ganked their lane in the 3 minutes that the game has started. Honestly, I used to love league so much. I played it so often, I basically put so much effort into League. Now I cannot recommend this game to someone just because of the toxicity of the community and the sheer unwelcoming of new players. There is only so much you can do in bot games, eventually you have to take the step to PVP, but it is virtually impossible because of the amount of hate in this community. I know if I am laning against someone who is new, I take the time to help them learn. It is a casual game, after all. I save the try harding and unrelentingness for ranked. This game has become such a shit show, and I know other people have noticed it. There is no reason people should be this toxic. And it is not even talking shit, it is being an asshole pure to the fact that you are better than the person, or that you are mad. It is making it harder and harder for me to play this game. And like I said above, I honestly do not believe I could recommend this game to my friends anymore. Anyways, thanks for taking the time out of your day to read this, I really hope you ponder on this for a while.

I would start by turning all chat off. It's not necessary to play the game. The rest comes down to muting and reporting your teammates if they start harassing him. Make sure he knows how to do those 2 things and the problems will fix themselves.

League is a great game, and I'm glad you are taking the time to teach your brother. There will be unpleasant people in all games, unfortunately that has become the norm, but I can say that things are getting better in league, just at a slow rate.

It's society man. Have you not noticed the disdain and contempt people have towards one another these days? It's not just a league thing. It's society in general, mixed with youth. Youths don't give a shit. 15 years ago I probably would have berated your brother too, just because I didn't give a shit about people's feelings or whether they take something seriously or not. If confronted I would just say "what the fuck? Take a joke" You know?

Anyways, definitely mute people when playing with him. That's really the first thing you should have done, is have him mute all. I don't know what you expected. People are assholes. But not all of us. A lot of players are still courteous and civil... It's just the toxic ones are so much louder and have a bigger impact on your mind.

While I agree with toxicity being terrible especially towards new payers, in gameplay it is not their (experienced players) problem, that new player can't play. If they can take an advantage, that leads them to victory-- why not, if they want to enjoy being better-- why not. I never tolerate in gameplay players' mistakes regardless how they feel/new/trying, because this will lead me to victory. It is part of their job to understand how to prevent this. And by the time they join PVP I expect them to know such stuff as items, leveling up, running away, using summoner spells. I may give an advice in the end of the game, but only then.

I had my first online game of league of legends end up in a 3/22 nocturne, team was really toxic and it ruined that game. But the game in iteself is really great and we cant just decide to mute everyone or permaban everyone that insult other player.

I think the solution would be to add an option to your queu when playing league, you can either decide to get a fast queu and be placed with people of same elo. Or decide to have a longer Q timing but be placed with people with your lvl of toxicity/positive attitude.

Im pretty sure most nice people would like to play with nice people and would choose the Q that make the league experience better and would make it way more welcoming for new player. (reward for positivity and toxicity for toxic player)

of course, if you are nice but duo with a toxic player (me playing duo with my cousin) you would be placed in a Q of toxicity lvl of the most toxic player to avoid toxic player going in the games of people who want to have fun.

Did you know?

There used to be a thing called "honorable AFK".

If some one on the enemy team went AFK, some one on your team would pseudo AFK and make the game a 4v4.

Oh the good ole days.

That is another issue, with smurfs being queued with new players.

I tested this out by leveling an account to level 10, and it seems like the majority of people down at those levels aren't actually new, but permabanned and made a new account. A ton of people have "reformed" in their names.
