Late Argument on Rewards

As a note before reading, I used to be a toxic player, sometimes I still am. However, I was banned shortly after the whole "clean slate" thing; I am not arguing why I was banned, it was completely warranted however I am arguing what should be classified as 'rewards' and what should not.

I don't think rewards based on personal achievement should be taken away in a game like League of Legends. I finally hit diamond after 2 and a half years of playing this game, and not being able to see that border sucks and makes me wonder why it was even taken away? The ban was almost bad enough but ALSO taking away any rewards earned for ranked 5's almost seems like overkill as well. I understand the need to punish summoners who consistently flame their team or intentionally feed or whatever it may be, but since my ban I believe I have taken drastic steps to improve my in-game chatting, I used to have hundreds of chat restrictions and a few ranked restrictions every now and then, I know exactly what a toxic person is and I'm not making this post because I'm just angry, I honestly want a good explanation on why getting heated in an extremely competitive game like league of legends, which is just going to happen justifies taking away rewards that I've taken hundreds of days of my life to achieve, rewards that are based purely on individual skill, the ability to work with a team and are there to show my progress and achievement in game. If anything, the only thing I would call a 'reward' in that sense is the Victorious Skin or MAYBE the ward skins.

I think taking the skins away would be more justifiable than taking away the border and summoner icon that show achievement, if taking anything away at all. Why don't bans/chat restrictions/ranked restrictions coupled with rewarding players who do good not enough? I don't think we need to also take away the rewards that players earned because they are toxic, simply ban them more, chat restrict them more, post more things about being positive, do something to increase positivity, give out more rewards based on being a positive player and I can most definitely say you will see more of an increase in positivity than taking away rewards and achievements.

That's just my two cents, I know this is a little late and I knew I wasn't getting rewards but as a player who used to be (probably in the top couple % of toxic players) and someone who has put a lot of effort into getting better and being a better person overall I just wanted to hear some other players/rioters thoughts on this subject.

  1. Rewards matter to people. Punishments that people don't care about (temporary bans, most people just play on a smurf for two weeks) don't do anything. Many people have hundreds of chat restrictions. They don't reform with more. Bans do nothing for most people. Fun statistic from Lyte. 97% of players who reform do so after their first punishment. This means that it is almost pointless giving out extra punishments, and completely pointless giving out more than a few.

  2. Riot are trying to make a positive player system. It is taking a long time, though - the team that makes it also did ranked teambuilder among other things, which they believed should take priority. We just have to wait.

  3. " Why don't bans/chat restrictions/ranked restrictions coupled with rewarding players who do good not enough?" You sort of answered this one yourself. You had "hundreds of chat restrictions and a few ranked restrictions every now and then", but didn't reform enough to avoid a ban. These punishments weren't working for you and don't work for a lot of the toxic people left.

  4. I want to pick up on something you said. "getting heated in an extremely competitive game like league of legends, which is just going to happen"

Getting heated in a game like league is expected. Flaming is not... You don't have to take it out on other people. That is not "just going to happen". There are several techniques for dealing with this type of thing. You could type it out and not push enter, write what you want to say on a piece of paper. I find that saying it out loud helps. It is true that a competitive game can make people upset. It is true that these upset people still have control of their actions.

There's been a little bit written on this by Rioters. I'm leaving it to you to dig it up, though. Use the search feature well. Personally, I gave up on questioning why Riot does things. They just do.

more of a money scheme to get you to make another account which is basically the basis of everything they do to try to get you to spend as much money as possible without them having to look like the fault of it. I don't think players that are toxic who earned things shouldnt get them i think they should just get banned. I dont see why rewards have anything to do with it either a border and bad skin for a low price champion is meh. Even if i didnt get my shit I wouldnt care just because riot wants to tie something thats irrelevant together doesn't mean you didnt get your achievement. If you wanted it to like gloat or show off low diamond isnt even good anyways so there is no point :P
