Possible Rewards for Honor System

I have a few ideas for a possible rework of the honor system to make it more appealing. Currently now, there are four possible honors: Friendly, Teamwork, Helpful, and Honorable Opponent

The obvious reason people don't honor is there is no tangible benefit except for ribbon, because I believe you need a certain amount of honor given AND received to get ribbons, but not sure about this. If this was outright stated then people might honor more.

A. One option is to give actual in-game benefits, very minor ones, for getting certain ribbons, and to also make the ribbons much easier to get. A ribbon system that works similar to runes, but you only get one boost per ribbon. The boost could be anything from +8% healing power, to +10% effect of slows, to +6% move speed. You could receive whatever boosts are available depending on which ribbon you have. You could either allow the players to choose their own boost, or receive a specific boost based on which ribbons they have received (limit on ribbons of course). It would also be a requirement that you give out honor on a regular basis to receive ribbons- this encourages players to look for people that might deserve that honor and give it out, even if their only incentive is a minor boost.

Cons:

The issue of honor farming/trading: Prevent honor given from friends and premades from counting much, or from counting at all. Auto flag anyone who mentions honor farming or trading in game, problem is mostly solved.

Ribbons become a 'requirement': Ribbons will be seen as another requirement, and making honor a requirement even if it's a tiny boost. This is probably the only major downside I see, but it would definitely heavily promote honoring.

B. Another option is to automatically give ribbons to players who give and receive honor on a regular basis, but have certain stats, an example: A player who has been receiving and giving honor a lot healed over 25% of the enemies total damage dealt to champions, Great Healer Ribbon +5% healing.

Cons:

Balancing of Ribbon Stats/Rewards Somewhat encourage stat farming in-game, although I don't see many people doing this

No. At no point should a person be punished for not receiving honors, it would be a real kick in the balls to anyone who prefers to be quiet during games. Being an endless source of sunny disposition and rainbows is not the only acceptable way to behave in league.

It would also be a requirement that you give out honor on a regular basis to receive ribbons-

Also no. Sometimes, you're going to think that no one on your team deserves an honor. A person shouldn't feel pressured to give one out so that they can enjoy in-game benefits.

I want the honor system to be better. Since I don't particularly like just shooting down your idea without giving some sort of alternative that I believe is better (and why) here it goes;

  • There can't be any in-game benefit for receiving or giving honors.

League is a game where, at the start of the game, everyone is on an even playing field. Everyone is easily capable of achieving level 30 and having a rune page that give them their starting stats.

Any sort of reward for receiving or giving honors needs to be purely cosmetic or some outside-of-game reward that is easily obtainable but incapable of being farmed.

So my solution (inspired by how FFXIV handles commendations);

  • Reward the player for giving honor points with some small amount of IP, but only after 3 games where you honor someone and the reward can only be given out once per week.

This will encourage people to hand out some honors but won't overly pressure them by making it an easily achievable goal.

  • Reward players receiving honors by handing out specific skins at large checkpoints. Don't allow premades to honor each other.

People may attempt to farm for these, but since receiving an honor would now be completely dependant on strangers giving them out, they would actually need to be nice. And in the end, it's still a cosmetic that would not interfere with the game.

The difficult part of this would be "what skins"? Riot is certainly not going to make a "you did good" skin for every champion. So rather than a champion skin, make it summoner icons, ward skins, or (since they really need to do this anyway) an announcer change.

I think if you incorporate a reward system you better make honored players worthy, instead of just spamming honors. Make each player have a very limited honor option, where they can only honor 1 person per game and the guy with the most honors gets the honor for the game.

No one cares about the honor system due the the virtually impossible chance of getting a ribbon.

We need some kind of incentive, a rune's worth is good, as of now people barely honor anymore. 1 rune isn't going to make a difference in games

I think you should get to permaban a player of your choice after x amount of games without getting reported.
