Why is calling out people who dont get punished but say some of the nastiest things not allowed?

title says it all tbh "name and shame" is a stupid policy we should all be held accountable for what we say in a public forum (i wouldnt have this stance if the system of reporting players actually worked)

The same reason vigilante justice is illegal in the real world - it's not your right to judge what others deserve for their transgressions.

The report system does work btw. However, if you impulsively report 3 people every game because of anything they said or did that you personally didn't like, you're not going to see a high rate of success.

More often than not, the person asking to have someone reported is the toxic one.

Because calling them out does not help. Reports do. They WILL be punished for their behavior, but only if you report them for it. In the meantime, don't rise to the bait.

You're right which is why Riot holds people accountable as long as you report them. But it's Riot's job to hold them accountable, not yours. Your job is to report them every time it happens so that Riot knows what you don't find acceptable and can make decisions based on that.

A) Riot can't really go ahead and issue punishments based on forum posts. If they ever did it, even just once, people would go ahead clog up the forum with shit like this, because most people think their case is somehow special. As a result, reporting people on the forums doesn't even usually lead to any punishment. Sidenote: Even if Riot would choose to take action, they probably wouldn't need you to tell them the name of the player that did it. Your description would most likely be enough in almost all cases.

B) People like to jump onto bandwagons. Take a look at the Tyler case. I'd say about 90% of typical forum visitors felt very strongly about the case... even though probably only very few really watched his videos or generally informed themselves. Even if it doesn't usually end up like that, naming and shaming can lead to extreme witch hunts.

C) You can convince a lot of people that something happened just by saying it did. You can convince even more people with a few screenshots (that can fairly easily be created with photoshop). You can convince even more people if you have smurfs and upvote/comment on your thread a lot. And while most people won't do that, the typical forum user doesn't have any way of actually verifying your story. And while that may not sound like a large problem, it is a huge problem when combined with the previous post.

And ultimately: D) Because there's a better way. Reports, or, if you absolutely must have somebody look at it manually, you can submit a support ticket. Neither of these have the aforementioned problems, because Riot will act on support tickets and reports (even if you feel they don't), Riot can look at things objectively without peer pressure, and even more importantly: Riot can look at things objectively and verify your story.

tl;dr: A) Riot won't punish people based on reports on the forums. B) Naming and shaming leads to witch hunts. C) Nobody can actually verify your story. D) There's already a way to get Riot to look into your case, that doesn't have any of the aforementioned side-effects.

if you had a bad day and said the n word to a black guy because you were in a shitty mood, and he went and told all your friends and co-workers you are a racist fuck, when you didnt even mean it, would you feel good?

You can submit a support ticket to bring particularly offensive summoner to the attention of the support team, and it may prompt them to manually overlook the chat logs and data from that particular summoner. The reason just posting their name on the boards is bad is because you have no power or authority to punish them, and your communications with that person is between you and them, and possibly your team. In short, their behavior is not any business of anyone but Riot and those directly involved.

Because there is nothing stopping me from writing a post accusing YOU of saying nasty things.. It would be easy to doctor up a few images from a game, making it look like you said awful things in chat.

Furthermore, your statement that the report system doesn't work in a forum filled with members who are complaining about how the system has punished them for their behavior shows a flabbergasting lack of objectivity and critical thinking.

Finally, is there any reason you are coming to the NA boards to complain? Can't you complain about the EUNE system on the EUNE boards?
