I Wish We Could Mute ALL Chat

Not just /all chat. I know, I know, before I even read the replies: just control yourself! It's just a game! Just don't tilt! Think about other people's feelings! Grow up!

Yeah, the problem is that I just don't want to hear what my team has to say. Now with the new ping system, there is nothing my teammates could possibly have to say to me that they can't express via pings. I don't want to even see chat. I wish there was a way to just disable the feature entirely. I'm not someone who gets toxic when people suck or mess up... but if someone says something rude to me, I feel little to no obligation to keep my behavior in check outside of ranked, because I don't really care. Honestly, being rude back is my #1 priority in that moment. Is that a personal failing on my part? Absolutely. Does it change my impulse at the moment? Nope. I just do not have the capacity to care about other people's feelings once they've crossed that line with mine, and it instantly devolves into useless, childish bickering.

But even outside of that, having to hear my team's 'joking' and whatnot is grating and irritating. I just want to play the game without having to read nonsense. Being able to disable chat permanently would help so many pseudo-toxic players such as myself regulate our behavior before it ever escalates to a chat ban. To reiterate, now with pings and role selection, there is no reason for me to have to read what they are typing. Riot agrees; this is why toxic players are chat restricted.

Well, let me chat restrict myself. For my own sanity, and the ability to enjoy the games I play. Please: Let us disable ALL chat, including team chat, from an in-client menu.

Theres a mute all button.

/mute all mutes all chat including allied chat. If pings bother you you can also mute pings under the sound tab in the options menu.

You can. There is an option to disable /all chat. You could also /muteall

Not true in spirit. You can ping "assist me" all you want, but your jungler can't tell if that's "the enemy has no summoner spells, so I'm trying to bait them into a tower dive" or "y no ganks enemy jungler camp all day D:". You can ping "back off", but there's a world of difference between "I'm so far behind that ganking won't help, so focus on getting other lanes ahead" and "don't tax my CS" and "stop feeding my opponent, you're the reason I'm 0-6". You don't have any way to stroke the ego of the Yasuo that just got a quadra kill and is now carrying your losing team on his back.

I guess it's not that there's a reason you have to read it; you won't get banned just for muting everyone every game. But despite how amazing the new pings are, they don't convey everything. That is one reason it's a chat restriction rather than a straight up ban.
