Is picking X champion in X role considered "Toxic" and/or "Troll"

So I was thinking i wanted to experiment and have fun and since i have started seeing it a tad bit in a couple of my games (INCLUDING A RANKED ONE) i thought it would be fun to try. The champion is Ezreal and the role is Support.

My jungle didn't care that I was Ezreal support he just wanted to play do good and have fun. In which he was.

Our top lane didn't say anything to me but he was mad and sad because he was against Irelia and she OFC destroyed him. He was Nasus.

Our Mid lane flamed me in the champ select as well as in game and after game just for picking Ezreal.

My ADC blamed all his deaths on me and also claimed it was my fault he wasn't winning his lane

As for me I didn't really care I just wanted to do good and have fun.

Now in game my Mid and ADC claimed that I deserved to be banned for troll picking. And referred back to when a singed main got banned for going singed sup every game. To me it is only a troll pick if you aren't actually trying (building against your lane wrong, inting, or not playing safe in a bad match up.

The question is Do I deserve to be flamed at for the X champion I picked in X role just because it is off meta and does it justify there toxic behavior?

(This isn't meant to be rude or mean to anyone nor to target anyone. This is a question that has been on my mind for awhile now and can be applicable in multiple scenarios)

To add to this post as i was the mid lane. He didnt build correct against the lane he went damage APC ezreal with Frostfang. He didnt out ward me as the midlaner and when he got "flamed" as he has put it from me all i said is "ahh yes the legendary ezreal not support support" and asked him why he would troll pick and expect to not get flamed by the adc.

It depends of the champion and the role.

You are free to go Janna mid but don't expect that the 4 other persons on your team like that idea... because the chances they have to win the game were reduced drastically by your choice.

You dont deserve to be flamed... but you will be flamed.

Off meta stuff is fine, but usually requires more testing and theory crafting in order to work. It's not considered troll or toxic unless you are deliberately trying to screw someone over, take it from someone who played a lot of games of Teemo jungle.

I've been playing Veigar support in ranked for the last few weeks. Because it's a VERY unconventional pick, and because it can dramatically change the way the rest of the team plays and builds (especially the ADC), I explain what I would like to do and ask if they're ok with it. And here's the thing:

Veigar is conventional.

There is generally a lot of dispute involving this, and with videos such as Disco Heat's "League of Children" montages controversially play around this question. I personally think that it's fine to play whatever you want as long as you're not intentionally losing the game.

Riot also agrees with this through their website: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752884-Reporting-a-Player

Where it is accepted to go an unconventional "X" champion in a non meta lane. It literally states under Acceptable Behavior:

5) DO NOT REPORT A SUMMONER FOR NOT STICKING TO THE METAGAME

So overall I don't think that toxic behavior is justified against this. And anyway, stuff like Morgana jungle was considered meta at a time so I don't see why something like Ezreal support should be seen as wrong.

If you only asking about flaming, nothing justifice flaming.

If you want to know will you get banned, possibly. If you play ranked. The thing is, while off meta picks are not bannable, creating a toxic environment for your team is. So if you ask your teammates are they OK with it and all of them say "yes", it's fine. But if they say "no", because they don't know how to play with that kind of champion in that role, you are making this match harder for them, which can be seen as toxic.

But in unranked just pick what you want, no one should care.

And here's the thing:

If they're not ok with it, I DON'T DO IT.

That's because if I cause my team to tilt right out of champ select, **I'm being a crappy teammate. ** And in being a crappy teammate, I'm contributing to a loss even if I personally do well. If I went support veigar even if everyone (or even just two or three people) on my team was against it, I would be trolling and would deserve to be banned, because I would be a crappy teammate.

And the thing is, i've only had a couple games where people weren't comfortable with it and said I should play a tank support instead. Every other game, my teammates have told me to go for it. Turns out that just being a decent person can actually work out for you! And as an added bonus, securing explicit permission means that even if the game goes south, the team is much less likely to flame you for it (in fact, it's only happened once, and in hindsight I deserved it for playing poorly).

EDIT: I just noticed that I misread your initial post: I thought you said you'd played support ez in ranked, when all you said was you'd SEEN support ez in ranked. I think that generally you should still get permission from your team, since doing it in spite of their objections means that they're already semi-tilted before the game even begins. However, since it's normals, I wouldn't support a ban for it if you played to win after the pick.
