WARNING you can be banned for sarcasm

So I made a thread about this pretty much to hear peoples opinions on this ban well that doesn't matter anyone because riot finally answered my ticket support here's there final response:

Hey Summoner,

I'm sorry you felt that my message was automated but it was not. Being sarcastic towards other players has always been a punishable offensive as it's clearly not a positive way to act. If you want to act that way with your friends, that's up to you but behaving like that in League has never been OK.

In this case, it's seems clear that you were being sarcastic towards other players to antagonize them and that's also not OK. It's also very apparent that your teammates did not appreciate the way you were interacting towards them and, even after they told you this in no uncertain terms, you continued to make fun of them. That's not acceptable and it's always been possible to get a 2 week ban for this behavior; it looks like that's what happened here. As a result, the 2 week ban of this account was appropriate and we won't be lifting it.

You're free to make any boards posts you want but it won't affect our stance on this issue. If you have no new concerns, I'll have to consider this matter closed.

I've never understood why the chat is so strict as it is. why is sarcasm bad? I understand their are limits to what people should say. But we are all humans we all get upset. And imo you did pretty well keeping calm. I don't know your history so I'm not making assumptions but this is a pretty vanilla case. From just what you said at least.

Edit: I'm not toxic or anything. I've seen to many cases like this where teams flaming and upset and someone gets banned just for talking and trying to still keep up team communication, it's almost as if they want everyone to mute everyone else and never talk.

It's honestly why I don't tak to people. And ping only unless I'm playing with friends or I need to be like "SET UP FOR DRAGON" assist pings at dragon

Currently I was trying to cheer up even flamers by making jokes which, well, most of the time are obviously towards their flame and show that they won't get anything relatively nice if they flame me.

But now it changed everything, I will never talk in chat again! Sportsmanlike behaviour FTW!

Never flamed without getting flamed for like 7 games in a row, but always made sarcastic responses, 14 day ban, time to think about never talking in chat.

When people are toxic in my games unless the whole team is toxic in which case I mute, I just ignore said offender and rally the team to report them. Nothing more satisfying than 5 mins after a 4 man report on a flamer "due to the reports of you and a ..." Ahh justice

EDIT: won't even try to explain this image, because nobody will ever believe, being sarcastic without mentioning deaths cancer and mental disabilities still gets you banned...(I don't do that, but almost everyone else pretty much does) But it's funny, because they still give me this message.

I tried to ask kids whether I deserve it for sarcasm or not, all I got simple spit in the face because they will do anything to support riot, as they are perfect.

Actually I took a look at your thread and what I saw was you lashing out at people trying to help you simply because they didn't give you the answers that you wanted. These boards aren't here for people to get Yesman answers (well, outside of banned troll ragers of course), they're here for people to get help as to why they got punished along with getting answers to questions about the behavioral systems in general. Riot is not perfect, no one is, and no system is for that matter either, but you can help people help you by not resorting to insults and flaming the moment that people don't give you the answers that you want.

Punishments follow a tiered progression system:

1st offense: 10-game chat restriction. 2nd offense: 25-game chat restriction. 3rd offense: 2-week ban. 4th offense: permanent ban.

If a case is deemed punishment worthy (regardless of how severe it is) then it gets hit with the next punishment in line, which in your case was a 14-day ban. Cases can also be escalated to a 2-week or a permanent ban if the case in question is severe enough (i.e. death threats, racist comments, etc.). Players can gradually get back in good/decent standing and drop down tiers if they show enough effort to reform. For example, if a person got a 25-game chat restriction but showed enough reform effort to drop down a tier, then if they get punished again they'd get a 10-game chat restriction rather than a 2-week ban.

Regardless of whether a case is punishable or not, if the defendant resorts to insults and flaming on the boards when people don't give them the answers they want, it gives the impression that that's how they act in-game as well and that their punishment is therefore justified.

you know what funny I was sitting there reading my chat log on the client like that and I literally received 3 of those messages saying that a player I reported that game was punish so damn riot really hit the jack pot on toxic players that game 4 of us got banned haha even though this might be biased because its coming from me but I probably was the nicest that game wish I took some screen shots of the game chat... oh well next time I will if there is a next time..

yeah I think I was jungling that game if I remember correctly and our fizz died at about 2:30 minutes into the game when I was doing tucans that's when he spammed pinged mid lane as I responded with "pings muted now thanks to fizz" he said in all chat to "report me for flaming" as you can see that's when things just took off I seriously hate when kids say to report someone in all chat there is no return after someone says that it just starts a argument between that player he is saying to report and him.

This right here.. And this entire thread is why that thing where players judge other players needs to be a thing.

I wasn't playing back then but my veteran friends talk about it all the time. That would fix the edge cases like this. Plus the clever trolls who use the passive toxicity where they purposely misspell or use "interesting" wordplay.

Your ban wasn't exactly unjust, but it is unfair...I will give you that. I try to keep my mouth shut as much as possible because people get seriously ticked off over getting their asses handed to them on top lane, and they're begging support to come help...oh wait, by the time I can help, your dead...and they're camped waiting for me to get another kill. No Thanks...not feeding.

When you ping, make sure you ping properly. Abusing pings can get you in trouble as well. Just sayin'....

reading it normally, no one can really tell if anything typed is sarcastic on the internet. sarcasm is determined by the tone of your voice. you can also read anything and make it sound sarcastic.

TL;DR sarcasm doesn't work on the internet.
