it's simple: were you toxic to x when you were defending y?

if the answer is "yes" then that is why you got banned

can you provide the chatlogs so we can determine what exactly the problem was with your way of "defending"?

Well... Yeah. If you talked back at the offending player, then you get punished for toxicity.

If you prevented the offending player's words from reaching your ally's, then you must've hacked something.

Your text is an indication that your account has been punished recently. What kinda ban is it?

If you were punishable it is because of a specific action that didn't facilitate a civil environment in that game and that is what possibly made the report against you justified, progressing you another tier of discipline.

It does suck. We are expected to be civil at all times, so the best course of action is to avoid talking to flames beyond "Let's stay focused" and not responding to anything other than immediately helpful info about the game. (For instance, instead of typing "gi" I opt for either "XYZ is coming" or "all clear, go to 'objective'". At no point do I talk about anything else. This is my 2nd main account and some grunt scrub is not worth losing any more legacy content).

Bottom line, a flamer is no reason to lose it. If they say "KYS", reply with "Keep your socks" mute them, game on, then report. I stay focused.

Did you repeat the hate speech they said to whoever you were defending?

It really is simple: You control your own actions, not anyone else's. Feel free to defend a player, but do it by defending them, not by attacking the aggressor.

Situation a:

Bob: You suck at this game so bad holy crap how could you do that Jim: Whoa, he didn't do anything wrong, he just got outplayed.

Bob gets punished, Jim doesn't.

Situation b:

Bob: You suck at this game so bad holy crap how could you do that Jim: You suck worse than he does Bob, wtf is wrong with you you !@$% !#@#$@ @@#! $#@$

Both Jim and Bob get punished.
