What is the point of having a name and shame rule?

In my opinion it's only sound like just a good excuse to hide the dirt under the carpet

It doesn't actually accomplish anything. There are millions of players and knowing the name of a problem player doesn't do anything for you. What are you going to do make a list or memorise them and check every single player you run into against it? If you have something you want to report, no one is looking for that on the boards. It is like going to the post office to report a crime.

Naming and shaming is just an accusation from a likely bias source. It is more about protecting others from false accusations than protecting someone who actually did anything.

It's to stop false accusations from creating a bad impression of a player that didn't deserve it. If that player sees it, they'll disagree, others will claim they're lying, and things can spiral downhill from there because it's impossible to prove either way. Better that we avoid the possibility entirely.

Or the more simple reason; nothing is accomplished by naming the player in the first place. Report them when you can, send in a separate support ticket if it's really bad or you left the lobby already, but the Boards can't do anything with that name.

Gasp, it's like people can have different opinions than you.

Adults are capable of disagreeing and being civil about it, you know.

Massive witch hunts.

I know this has already been answered, but the main reason why I'm against Name and Shame is because it can lead to witch hunts. If you follow Youtube news at all (don't bother is a waste of time) then I'm sure you've heard of Keemstar. He reports on Youtube drama but also streams. In his streams he has DoX'd people and had his followers harass the people he Dox'ed. This includes swatting someone, calling their house repeatedly, and sending death threats through personal cell phone numbers and personal (not business) e-mails.

My vote is to collaborate with people who can make this happen to create a website like LoLNexus that looks up you and all the players in your game and provides detailed peer submitted reports and screenshots if there has been anything submitted about anyone on your team. More people will refrain from being chodes in general if we had our own system that held our peers accountable.

Maybe there's a penalty for dodging, but at least you would know what you're dealing with the moment you're placed in a lobby full of randoms.
