Request for loss prevention when players AFK too late to remake

Hey everyone! I'm a support main in EUNE in high gold. I'm sure most of you know it's quite hard to win ranked games as 4v5, especially as a support who can't always carry. For example, I had AFKs in my last 2 ranked games. (which moderation won't let me link to)

This happens quite a lot to me, in a high percentage of my ranked games at least an ally goes AFK. The /remake addition last year was quite useful, because now you can prevent losses due to players never joining, but that doesn't help if they leave after 3 minutes and don't come back into a 45 minute game.

I propose a system to prevent LP loss (or at least minimize it) based off the following AFK criteria:

  1. Disconnection and being out of the game for a long period
  2. Walking around base and not going to a lane or jg (probably would only apply until and enemies minions penetrate the base)
  3. Not attacking/damaging anything for a while

A player should only be flagged as AFK if they do at least one of the above for a prolonged period, which could be a flat time (like no XP after 5 mins of AFK), or maybe based off game length. It can also require them to do one of the above for longer based off when they leave to prevent the issue I bring below. I also think you shouldn't go all out to destroy first time offenders, life happens, if the consistently leave hit the hard.

I'm sure there are more ways to detect AFK players, and I'm sure some players will find ways around this, but it's a good start.

Last time I mentioned something similar (I think 2 years ago) the biggest concern was players abusing such a system, where a player would be thrown under the bus so the rest of the team won't get a loss. In lower ELO where players might have easily available smurfs this is probably the hardest to deal with. That being said, I don't think that's much of an issue if they lose a substantial amount of LP and get LeaverBuster. Although, if you're afraid it can still be abused I'm sure looking into if they're premade and their AFKing history could help.

I think such a system would be quite useful, especially for the unlucky few of us who have AFKs too often. Such a system could be easily tested by having the community supply examples of games with and without AFKs (ranked or normal), and tweaking everything until it doesn't have false positives.

Please Riot, try to deal with the pain and suffering me and many others are put through due to AFKs in games. Sincerely, EtK2000, a loyal League of Legends player for years.

I've removed the match histories you linked, as this constitutes naming and shaming. If you reported them in the post-game, then that should suffice.

Moving around in base does not keep you from being detected as afk.
