Should reformed players be allowed to earn back their old banned accounts?

My Account is Suspended

Hello there, My name is McSiggs and I am a banned account since February 2017. I started playing league around late 2015, around late season 5, and I always was a toxic player. I would flame my teammates and go all out on anyone who I deemed to be trolling. I then got hit with a chat restriction for 10 games, in which case at first opened my eyes a little to what I was doing wrong. However to my own dismay I continued to flame and be toxic. I eventually got permanently banned, to my surprise after a year of playing and being toxic. Now I am not going to point out the wrongs or why I hate the Instant feedback system. Because honestly I don't hate it at all. I appreciate that there is a system in place for people like me. For the ones who were toxic and still are ruining the community. Now there is something I wanted to point out, an idea if you will for maybe Riot could consider. From the moment I first started playing league to now climbing elo and getting hardstuck in Gold, I love the game. Riot has outdone themselves and have come along way. I am proud to say that I play this game and made some long time friends because of it. Now I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't care about the game which I really do, even more so the community. There is this idea I have been thinking about and letting it cultivate in my mind. I realized something that can be done for players who have taken the steps toward their reformation or who have reformed and just enjoying the game like everyone else. I propose their should be a way to honor the players and that small community of people who were toxic and eventually reformed. Think of this as like Alcoholics Anonymous but for league players. A program where it is prompted with the warning of a permanent ban. Now there would be two parts to this, either if someone had an account and has reformed but plays on a new separate account, they can go through this program and eventually earn their account back. And the other part is the initial prompt when a person is facing a long time ban. In order for a summoner to earn their account back they would go through a variety of steps in the program to prove that they have reformed. This can include a 100 games which they cannot be reported or they will be banned. A group of players who are also in the program which they can only play together otherwise they cannot solo by themselves, think of this as like a buddy system. Maybe even with this program this could add longer chat restrictions before bans, because one thing I noticed is that I did better and won more games in ranked when my chat was restricted/limited because I wouldn't be able to say as much so I just didn't bother and focused on the game. Obviously I would go back to my old ways once the chat restriction is done. Now this and many other ideas I am sure the league community can come up with could be implemented in such a program. This can be all supervised by a team from Riot in which their mission would be to assist players who truly want to be reformed and earn their accounts back. Now I know what many are thinking, "Hey McSiggs, Riot states that any account that's perma banned cannot ever ever ever be overturned". Very true fellow comrade, but what I'm proposing wouldn't just be overturning account like its nothing. These are valuable accounts that people put time and effort into cultivating and earning. Whether its elo, skins or even just worthwhile time. Any account that is banned is a sad thing to have happen. Personally for me I would truly be invested into such a program like this because I want people to learn from their mistakes and have the community stronger not only for the game but for Riot as well. Without the community there is no Riot, yet without Riot there wouldn't be a community in the first place. So there needs to be strong relationship between both. I hope to hear back from many of you. I want to hear your thoughts and concerns and don't hesitate to leave a comment! Have fun out there in the Rift summoners!

The Level 20 Challenge pretty much killed any chance of a similar program. It was a disaster.

If you're that interested in helping others keep their accounts, you should volunteer your time here on the PB&M board.

If the account is permanently banned, it's permanent. Losing the account, and any content and all the time you had spent on it is part of the punishment/lesson to be learned. So no, I feel zero remorse for people who couldn't follow rules as simple as "don't be a dick".

And they tried a gauntlet-style test like you bring up. They offered people the chance to level up an account and they would give the person their main account back if they proved they were reformed while leveling the account up. Guess what the success rate was: 0%.

+1 yes they should

Here are some of the problems with this idea:

  1. A very small % of people get permabanned.
  2. The people who were permabanned often ruined thousands of players gaming experiences.
  3. Giving these permabanned players another chance could risk ruining more games for other people.

Bottom line: When Riot permabans someone, they are saying, "We don't want you playing our game anymore. Please play a different game".

Riot will not put other players who are well-behaving people at risk.

The thing about permabans is that they are meant to say "spend your time elsewhere," not "hasta luego." you propose a lot of odd things, including an additional warning after 3 prior warnings that increase in severity. The warning about possible permaban is attached to the 14-day report card. You also propose the 100 game gauntlet of other toxic players; if anything, this is an additional "we don't want you in the game" message.

I will say I'm glad you've reformed and appreciate your story.

I've been hit with 64 games chat restrictions ban tho i still going to town saying these lines and never had one again since than.

" I can't carry these babies/kids who don't look @ vision control" You want to stop Teemo buy thisitem 3364 simple kids.

" I'm stuck in a game with terrible kids" "Plz go back to Minecraft". "You think you're playing like an adult hell no adults don't play like that" (IF-repeorted)

"Fuk no i'm not walking into an 4vs1 dumbass" Usually if my team is playing stupid i don't bother killing myself for nothing, tho i do enjoy the revenge kills even @ the cost at my life.

I love how all the people that enforce this stupid ban system are always low gold silver or bronze. This is a dumb system period. The primary reason of ranked games is to win and climb period! There is literally no other reason they even reinforce this by putting rewards up for players who achieve higher tiers of elo. The fact that you are being forced to fake a personality to people you are most likely never ever going to play with again is pathetic. It is understandable that people will get upset and thats fine there is a mute button for a reason, if you dont like what they say mute them; dont cry about it and expect a pat in the back from riot. They are literally turning this community into fake ass people full of sarcasm and fake joy. If riot would actually believe in their system they would remove mute button and only ban, it makes no sense to have a mute button to "not disturb others" if they will ban you anyways its straight up stupid. I have been banned many times its okay I know im not the nicest person but im also not the worst. The point of the ranked portion of the game is to climb and get good, when people waste 3 to 4 hours of their day to get into promos and then lose because your team doesn't feel like communicating, using their brains or listen to team calls at all' it really gets frustrating especially for those who really wanna achieve high elo and riot needs to understand this. I would completely understand the banning system if there was no ranked games however, there is and I strongly believe that this system needs a rework just like Aatrox . I've seen dozens of streamers be completely toxic during streams calling teammates "fucking retards" sure they dont type it but they say it and doesn't that have more of an impact as a random player that got angry in his promo games and flamed and got muted by most of the team by the 10 minute point? Yes it does they of often have big followings and fans go into games a mimic this behavior again analyze the way your run things Riot. There is also those classical passive aggressive players that will not directly curse you but after a fail flash or fail ult they will "say nice flash buddy :^)" triggering the players into becoming toxic and guess what happens next?? the player gets triggered flames the bully and then??? wow what a surprise the triggered player gets banned because the passive aggressive player reported him for insanely toxic behaviour and the funniest part is that when you complain to riot about this and all they say is "sorry you should've muted him" nothing can be done now. Very nice! You get triggered by a teammate but since there is no cursing or foul language used they get to walk away laughing and continue to be toxic in a passive way which is obnoxious. Also, isn't saying GGEZ at the end of the game offensive to the enemy team? shouldn't that be a bannable offense according to riot you shall not be "negative". Basically League of Legends is a great game with a trash tribunal system. I am now happily playing in diamond 2 being passive aggressive as hell and not even 1 chat restriction boys so if you wanna be toxic let me give you a tip be passive agressive and riot will allow toxicity to live! Imagine how this game is going to be when voice chat is implemented I cant wait for the shit storm. Cheers.

I got banned for talking to people that were ruining games, and tried to make them turn on the brain. If people got a problem with me, taking a professionel talk with somebody they gotta mute me. Riot too lazy, to realise not every toxic players feed the other team with free kills. But a lot of perma banned player took discussing up with trolls, baiters, noobs, brian-dead players to make them play like a human being.

Riot are lazy. They have caused so much damage. They banned people for flame, when there is a mute button. They dont ban the trolls, baiters or brain-deads. They ban the people that take the fight up against them.

League of legends is the worst it has ever been! They are banning people from Season 1-2, more than they are banning new players!

League has been inflicted with cancer. And people are chosing other games, Dota has grown substantially compared to league. Overwatch has gotten a solid player base, that is way better than league's by now, They even got videogamedonkey playing that game.

And what does League got left, of entertainers, on Twitch? We got weeabo Nightblu3 and imaqtpie. Other than that, we got a list of pasty ass white boys, with the same face of no emotion, yeah that is what we have become, stripped people off their emotion. Who wants to play a game and don't feel emotion, because you scared to feel the wrong type of emotion that can get your 100k dollar account banned?

Let's look at the Fax. Where was League? Before the new system that was enforced that got many players perma-banned including entertainers and skilled young stars for flame. Always on the Top.

Where is League now on Twitch? Sometimes we are at top 1, But it has become rare compared the time before. OW, CSGO, Heartstone, New single players games, Speed rune games, all those games are infront of league. Before the New System, What did we have???? Total domination of the gaming industry. And now we are slowing decreasing.

What does the players unknown feel about this, i mean the players from season 1-3, Some people that saw a game and knew it would become great, that have a eye for a good game. Well a lot of does players feel the game is not the same anymore. Well of course it is not the same anymore, when you let trolls, baiters and brain dead people have free passage without people telling them what they are actually doing with their life right. And you also removed the guy's with the creative comments in the game, so all you will see in the chat is a "Ping" "Lol". You will not see need to this, Or a gameplan, or anything like that because it will cause conflict, and conflict is banable, so everybody too afriad to do that.

Let's just all look at the Fax, that a lot of players in System, that like the ban, they downvote these kinds of posts, because they are afraid to lose their power. And it really blind the riot developers and the riot team. Other than that Riot is a Billion Dollar company now, So they have a lot of Normies, that just look at numbers and not the Quality of the game.

And what i mean by Normies, players they have a fine education, but never played the game or been one of the few people that saw this was a great game.

Like i'm happy to say, i'm a season 1 player, i'm glad, i was one of the first to touch this game, feel the core, experience it tell everyone about it, get a lot of new members to the game, like i advetised for this game in the start. Can i do the same anymore, NOPE, the game is simply too hard, to join now, and if you want to play the game, you need to try. Because everything fun is banable and every comment out of the script is also banable, that is the way i feel and a lot of other people feel. I will say to somebody ask if he should play league, i would say stay away, dont waste your time on.

I got mine back. It was banned for abusing referrals way back when.

I got mine back after almost 3 years, not 3 months lol.

YerroFever5/11/2017, 5:25:01 AM1 votes

No, letting people earn their accounts back just means all they have to do is fake it until they get everything unlocked again. This is asking to only inconvenience the toxic people instead of having the toxic people face consequences.

What you're asking is to let the truly toxic people continue to harass and never really ever be punished because you keep letting them back in and letting them never feel any consequences in the long run.

They had a program almost exactly like most of that once upon a time, it didn't work. Permabanned is permabanned. They get chances leading up to the ban.

I do however like the idea posted last week about adding a chat restriction after the 14-day to make people watch more before the Perma (they may forget they're on thin ice after the 14-days off.) Making a new account and not being toxic on it is how they redeem themselves.

McSiggs5/9/2017, 3:12:04 PM

Hey guys I am really appreciating and hearing out all of your comments. I am getting the vibe from others on the reasoning for the perma ban and such. I understand your concerns about how previous programs failed and how a small percentage of players actually are a menace to the community. Well in all honesty you guys are talking about me too. From the toxic players to the ones from day one and still kicking, you all are my community. I am here not only for the well being of the league community but also those who want to make a change, climb elo and just have fun with this amazing game. I know it may be hard for some to read this and only reminisce on those past games where their only thought on the toxic player ruining their game. Let us all be real to ourselves, yes that person was toxic and maybe fed, but deep down something caused that player to act out. Either something in real life they're going through or even if they are tilted from that game, one thing that throws more gasoline to the fire is to respond back to them and give them the attention they crave. Believe me I know this because I used to be one of the worst. I am not defending these certain players who are toxic day in or day out, or the ones who completely or is trying to reform. I want to be a help to all of them, to every single one of you out there. Not only as a voice for the ones who lost their promos because a toxic player, but that toxic player who maybe is dealing with offsite issues and league is their only outlet. Life is tough regardless of just public school and maybe kids we deal with, or even dealing with family. League was a safe haven for me and I originally abused it overlooking the many positives it gave me. I love to play league and this community is so diverse it makes me baffle on how the US government couldn't be the same. We deal and resolve issues with our words and hear each others opinions. I love that so much its awesome. The reason why this comment is so long is because I recently caught up with the trend of watching 13 Reasons Why and let me tell you that show was epic. It hit me home without question and every single person on that tape I experienced with. I am not saying my life correlated exactly how that story panned out, but let me tell you it was oddly similar. I may not have been the kid that was picked on but I had a friend who was dealing with similar issues Hannah had dealt with. I introduced her to league and then she continued to play other online games as well. She was more of a console person and she doubted the thought of PC. She got hooked and we started to play norms, ranked, aram and all the other specials riot creates. However our first year of university we kind of went our separate ways and she tried joining sororities and partied, I went to them too but we didn't hang out as much. One day she had a bad week leading up to this point and then we played a game where she just was met with toxicity, and hurtful words. She continued to respond back to them and I told her repeatedly to mute them. She wouldn't listen, afterwards they friended her and continued their rampage and she continued to read. I don't know why she read them. Two weeks after that she dropped out of university and she went back home. A few days later from being home I get a call from one of our mutual friends and they told me she had killed herself. I am not saying all of this in BS or trying to get my account back. All I want is people to just come united to playing this game. This game has given me the best and worst. Yet my friend had been given the worst and would I say lead her to the wrong path, I don't know. At first I used to blame myself and sometimes put myself through pain to try and figure out why it all happened. A few months after that I started to receive longer chat restrictions and bans. I eventually got the perma ban, and continued to play other accounts and be toxic. I woke up one day thinking of Emma, and I was given the relief I was constantly searching for. It was a sunny morning and I walked outside and there was the tree down the road all of us as kids passed by on our bikes. And I don't know if I was on drugs or what, but dude let me tell you I saw her. I saw her smile and her telling me its going to be alright, it wasn't my fault. I never cried so much in my life, at that moment I broke. My family and I moved to a different state and that day always brings me joy and I don't ever miss my friend like I used too. Why am I saying all this? and especially on a forum blog for an online game. Well friends, I am totally invested in my idea. I believe all of us deserve a second chance, whether or not some of you may think those toxic players from Emma's games could of been to blame. All of us have seen the worst and best of league. And to the new players, maybe someday this post will reach to you, but let me implore to you that this is one of the most receiving and growing online communities in the world. People all over have a common goal and its to make league better. I hope this message is a bright one for most and also a darker reminder of where I come from. I want people to know they are important and that we make mistakes and all deserve second chances. Thanks guys....
