How to fix afk.
In the last 3 days i have had over 20 afks. Some came back most didn't. So heres my thoughts and suggestions on it.
Nothing is worse than losing a promo or getting demoted because someone dced.
Now when the dc or afk happens changes the severity of it. If you dc for 2 minutes 4 minutes in you will probably be ok if you play safe. If you dc for 2 minutes 25 minutes in you just probably lost. My suggestion is to give small boosts to the team with the afk, not enough to make up for losing a full team but enough that with good play you can win.
If before 20 minutes if the person isn't back in 3 minutes lock dragon and herald from being killed. If 20+ immediately lock baron and dragon the second the person dcs. The lock should either be till 5-10 minutes after they return OR all game.
Other possibilities are, Increase exp gained by 10 percent per minion, monster, and kill, gain an extra 5 gold per 5 increasing over time, turrets all gain the hp regen of a nexus turret making them harder to push if you successfully defend one. Everyone gains 20 armor, ms, and mag res and 20 max hp on the team with the afk.
The second the person dcs the bonus or bonuses should start maybe the longer the person is gone the more bonuses you get.
I know the common argument is this encourages people to make others leave, but there's systems in place for both the leaver and the ones saying get out. Plus saying that you should do nothing because of toxic people is like saying do not give the poor food stamps because some people might abuse the system.
You shouldn't have to starve cause assholes exist, you shouldn't have to lose either.
Also anyone abusing the system with a duo would be insanely easy to track.
