Damage Over Time Consistency

Could we get some consistency in DOT tooltips? Some of them, such as Malzahar Malzahar's Malefic Visions and Nether Grasp tell you the total damage done over time. Whereas Morgana Morgana's Tormented Soil tells you the damage per second (per half-second).

Swain Swain is a great example of a champion with both types of tooltips in one kit. Torment goes the "total damage" route, and Decrepify goes "damage per second". But, Decrepify is then awesome for having a second part of the tooltip that gives TOTAL damage. Personally, I'd like for all Damage Over Time tooltips to be like Decrepify. The damage per second style undersells the ability a little, but sometimes you want to know, "Yes, this will do 200 damage in two seconds."

The inconsistency comes from the two different versions of DoTs in question: targeted versus area of effect. Malefic visions and Nether grasp tell you the total damage because, baring interruption, that is the damage you get whereas Tormented Soil and Null Zone give you per second as it isn't likely that the enemy will remain in the AoE for long.

If you look at the category of DoT, I'm pretty sure that their damage description falls into one of these two categories.

Good point. I had not seen that problem with the tooltips. You shall be upvoted.

The ironic thing is that 200 damage per 2 seconds is not as consistent as 100 damage per second.

I completely agree.
