So let's be honest; Are Fanmade Champions just viewed as a "for fun" project by Riot?

It's pretty clear that as much as we love to create and brainstorm new ideas (although sometimes they fall under the realm of trope-centric nomenclature like a "Dark Knight" or "Samurai"), does Riot ever truly consider them for their own ideas? I mean, there was the fabled story from years ago about how Fiddlesticks came to be just simply from a drawing on a napkin about a scarecrow.

There's been no evidence (Unless they're -really- that good at hiding details) that we'll ever see lore characters like Zelos, The Ruined King himself, or Kassadin's daughter. So what exactly -is- Riot's position on fanmade or otherwise fanon champion creations? Fun little pet projects to see how much of the tangy creative juices that your community can muster up or are they ever looked over with genuine sincerity to see what can be done later in the game's life?

They will never copy a champ conncept verbatum simply due to legal issues, even if the creator is perfectly willing. Inspiration can be a really good incentive to keep posting, as I'm sure there are at least some ideas lifted with passive and abilities. In fact Vel'koz, while not official, could have been directly inspired by a very old champ concept. I can't find it right now, sorry, but I'm sure someone who's been on the old forums for awhile know what concept I'm talking about (and could possibly link? XD).

Vel Kozs' battlecast skin looks identical to the sentinels from the matrix

They did make it clear that fanmade champions are not something Riot will pick up, nor should they be expected to. Aside from copyright issues, they have a ton of their own champions that need to be done. On the issue of lore champions, Lissandra was mentioned all the way back in the Journal of Justice if I'm not mistaken, so I don't see why not. And they had such an opportunity to make Vel Kassadin's daughter but they blew it.
