What is Lag? Baby don't hurt me Don't her me no more

So I've had lag in the last few games? I mean I end up doing good for the most part but I tend to reach a point where I dcd every second... and then i attempt to leave game and reconnect to fix it? As I do that I get a "disconnected from pvp.net" pop up T-T
