I have never been so unhappy playing a video game than just now. What has the community come to, when someone cares more about a game than a human beings life? I was told "die of cancer seeirously holy fk", to witch I replied with in all chat "Please report syndra we told me 'die of cancer'. My mother has cancer and he has no idea what kind of awful pain she lives with everyday". What I read next left me in shock, an enemy player said 'deal with it'. I thought to myself; how could someone be this cruel? I asked in all chat, 'do you have any idea how much it hurts to see someone you love die slowly of an awful disease?' again the enemy team replied with "deal with it". One player on the enemy team said "lost my grandpa to cancer, blows". Even someone who seems to have known what it's like to lose a loved one doesn't seem to care more about his grandpa than the game he was playing. I have never seen players bee THIS un-compassionate to other human beings.

I'm sure you mean well. Really I do. But when your solution to a problem, half of which was being told to deal with it, is to say "deal with it", you're not helping anyone. This guy shouldn't have to deal with it; people should just be nice human beings. He'll have to deal with it, because we can't change asshats' behaviour, but he already knows that.

I think 'deal with it' is the best politically correct response to the enemy team since noone wants to be reported by the enemy. Also you don't really have time to write a lot in these games, but most people hate these flamers, they just don't care enough to show it.

He's right. While I do feel really bad for you that you're mother is dying, that's something that you gotta handle yourself. I hope you did report Syndra for verbal abuse. Hopefully your next games have decent human beings.

Unfortunately for some, Riot probably wants to leave some communication open no matter what; the benefits of being able to talk to your team greatly outweighs the risk of having to listen to a troll before you mute them in-game.

lol at riot taking it seriously..... not really, the people who threaten to kill me. wish death upon my family, etc have got to keep playing (i check them from time to time at lolking and op.gg).

FYI, people that report a lot who don't deserve it get their reports thrown out. I imagine you'll want to say "well I only make legitimate reports"; too bad you can't prove it to us. Try submitting your report then not stalking them, especially since you don't know how long it'll take Riot to review the report manually (if ever) and administer punishment.

EDIT: Looked at your comments. It's become apparent to me that this has nothing to do with Riot banning players who made a threat to you; it's all about the fact that you got banned and didn't get 1-on-1 counseling with a Rioter about it. Get over it and don't do stuff that gets you banned anymore.

Please don't come in here acting all high and mighty, I have simply stated a fact that people have threatened to kill me and have still gotten to play for 90 days+ . I just came to comment on a post where the user got a death threat and had a bad experience and share my opinion (and facts on it). I dont go over your comment history and give you grief about stuff.

She shouldn't have said that, but you should have reacted differently. Trying to convince others to report is not only futile, as only one report is needed for the instance to get reviewed, but it also just brings more negative blowback on you. Next time just mute them. Also "un-compassionate" isn't a word.

You've already done all you can do, which is report them. There is no reason for the enemy team to report for something they have no evidence of. Report, and mute, there's nothing else you can do.

Riot doesn't want to listen or change anything important, and the majority of the player base feels entitled to treat you like shit without repercussions.

There's a difference between not caring and being hateful. I may not donate money to dying kids in Africa (or cancer patients/research for that matter), but I sure as hell won't tell someone to die of starvation or cancer, or to deal with it.

OK, maybe I owe a little bit more than a snarky response, so here goes. He didn't bring his problems to the game. His problems were brought to him. He has a loved one suffering from cancer, and someone told him "go die of cancer srsly". How is that not a punch in the gut that is completely unwarranted?

Further, how does that warrant a "deal with it" from the enemy team? They should have just said, at the most, "sux bro" or "will do". At the least, they could have ignored it.

The problem I find with all of this is 2 fold.

First i don't care. Honestly I'm coming to play a game to get away from the realities of life and just have fun. Keep your problems to yourself. Asking someone to report someone is annoying enough and usually makes me report you. Firstly I'm not going to report if I don't see it. Thats just stupid. Second if its intentionally feeding or something and you don't think I can tell and ask I'm reporting you anyways. Its harsh, but its a peeve of mine in league where people ask for reporting. Secondly saying that your mom as it is completely unnecessary. Why would anyone even care about your problems? It sucks it really does, but no one here does. I have my problems and I'm not complaining to everyone else.

He is bringing his problems in. Just because someone tells him to get cancer (while that is just stupid), he doesn't have to bring up his mom having it. Since I'm assuming that the statement about cancer was not said in all, but the comment about his mom was. Meaning that he did bring his problems to the game. No one asked about his mother with cancer or anything. He brought that in. There was no need for that line at all.

Second, the amount of BS that gets spouted out in chats has me glossed over to all comments. Its the internet I see people all the time commenting on things that are flat out lies. I've seen people lie to emphasis a point to make them right or to make it sound worse than it really is. I don't see why I would take this any different. I have no proof or care. my usual response to this kind of thing is "k" or "sux" cause i don't really care about it. Promptly muting you after. I'm here to play a game not be your psychiatrist or hear your problems. Leave them out of the game and with family and friends. Not random internet strangers and then expect them to actually care.

Its a cynical look on life, but its how the internet has become and I'm not changing or going to look for those special real cases out there to spare a persons feelings. Recently had a guy I use to play with die. I only knew him as his IGN, but after seeing a number of the other guys who actually knew him IRL posted RIP as their status's. I'm not going around commenting on it or even changing my status. Its a personal dilemma and thats it. Not something the rest of the gaming community needs to concern itself with.

I disagree about him bringing his problems in; I think his problems were accidentally thrown in his face, but anyway, I agree with the rest of it. I don't know you, it sucks your mom has cancer, but it doesn't affect me in any way (except to be double sure I don't tell you to die of cancer, or anything for that matter. Seriously, tell a depressed person to kill himself and he just might. What you say has consequences). "k" or "sux" is all that needs to be said, if anything.

It's when people responding to the response go above and beyond to try to be special d-bags that I start to get annoyed. Just because you or I are unmoved and unaffected by it doesn't mean we should conclude he doesn't have a problem in his life, or that the problem in this case is him for reacting. Human decency and not caring that much aren't mutually exclusive.

I agree that they shouldn't bring in excessive responses to it. Going to far in one way or the other is a bad thing regardless and while I may not believe you on your story, but it doesn't mean I'm going to further the situation and thats where I think many people go wrong. THey don't just drop it they continue down the problem and make it worse than if they must let it die.

Welcome to the internet. It's not a fun place.

It's hard to keep up with ragers and trolls, but there's a mute button to keep your sanity. There are huge jerks out there, and there always has been, and players are just not nice. It's hard, but that's the price of being at the internet.

Tips:

Mute
Ignore, they're not saying it for real
Whatever you do, don't talk back (aka Dont feed the troll)
Report afterwards and help this community become cleaner by like 0.0000001% (still alot)

When you play a game of League, you need to leave your emotions and sensitivity behind. It's League. It's a free game, so all kinds of people are going to get on it. Also, the age radius is pretty large, so you're going to have little kids on it too. When I get into these situations, I try to just put my hands in my lap and take a couple deep breathes. And in all seriousness, that doesn't always work. However. You can't bash the whole community for certain people. The community as a whole isn't that bad, the majority are actually really nice. I find sometimes, that when you have a toxic player, muting them is the first step to a peaceful and non frustrating game.

The effect of anonymity there. If people think you don't know who they are and have no way of finding them, they'll say things they would never say otherwise. Might not be true for some, but it is for most. I, myself, have said things I wouldn't if not for the protection of anonymity.

You have one person as yourself who is sincere in their words. Then you'll have another person who will say same thing as you just to try and get more reports on a teammate

Some of these kids are so numb due to trolls/media they just say w/e. The communities gotten better thanks to riots awesomeness, but still not perfect i agrees

You cant really change them. Since it is the internet, you cant do anything but mute and report. People are always more cruel when there are no consequences for them to deal with. I am sorry that you are going through this. My aunt has breast cancer for the 3rd time, and the doctors don't think she will beat it this time. Best of luck to you.

You do realize they don't really mean the things they say? This is a competitive game and competition makes people more aggressive than they usually are. I'm usually a nice person and even I get pissed when a match isn't going good. Don't let one or two people make you think the WHOLE community is full of assholes.

Why shouldn't one believe the whole community behaves like this? Almost every comment I've read has been "That's just the way the internet is" or "We have have to deal with it", or even "This is your fault somehow".

There are over 100 million people playing league every day. To get rid of all the jerks and idiots is an insurmountable task that pretty much impossible.

I would suggest you make liberal use of the mute and report functions. If you can't handle the jerks, then you probably shouldn't be playing league, because it will happen whether you like it or not. I've had people call me everything imaginable; threaten to rape me; and have been told to hurry up and die. You need to learn to ignore these idiots if you want to play league of legends. I am in no way condoning what they did. What they did was wrong! But, you need to know that is what the shape of the world is right now. Notice I used the word "world." Life is an ugly place sometimes. You just need to press forward and move on.

Sorry about your mom. Losing your mother is a terrible thing. Hope things go well for your family.
